Mezzo Ariel Bybee (Dorabella) is well known to Utah audiences. Although she was bom and reared in Los Angeles, she is a BYU graduate. She taught school in the Salt Lake City area before beginning her operatic career, and an impressive career it has been. She has had leading roles with the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera and the New York City Opera. She has been on the roster at the Met for 13 years now. She sang Tosca opposite Glade Peterson with Utah Opera and she is featured in fVanco Zeflerellis motion picture of La Traviata (as Flora). Other cast members include: soprano, Brenda Harris (Fiordiligi), who recently made her debut with NYC Opera; baritone, William Parker (Guglilmo), who made his debut at the famed La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy; tenor, Joseph Wolverton (Ferrando), who started his career as a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Center for American Artists; bass, George Hogan (Don Alfonso), an international .finalist in the Pavarotti Vocal Competition, who has appeared on PBS and with numerous opera companies in America; and Utahs own Susan Deuvono (Despina). Already a Utah Opera veteran now, Deuvono was a critical and popular success with her portrayals of Olympia in Tales of Hoffmann, Adele in Die Fledermaus, PapagenainThe Magic Flute, Musetta in La Boheme and most recently, as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel. Utah Opera music director, Byron Dean Ryan, conducts the Utah Symphony for this production. He has guest conducted for Pittsburgh Opera, Kansas City Lyric Opera and the Connecticut Opera. Utah Operas ensemble work for Cosi Fan Tutte is of the highest degree, and obviously, was very carefully rehearsed. The multi-talente- d Andrew Foldi is stage director. Foldi began his musical career as a critic. He has sung many character and buffo roles with practically every major opera company in Europe and America. He sang at the Met for many years and is a famous Bartolo (The Barber of Seville), having sung that role over 300 times. He is now recognized for for his staging of opera. He brings this experience to Utah from his many appearances in Mozart roles at world-clas- s theatres in Vienna, Brussels, Munich, Barcelona, New York, Geneva and Zurich.
