Show letters to the editor Subcommittee Presents Belated Suggestions Dear Forum Staff and Board of Governance: I am writing to you as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to inform you of the results of the Forum Subcommittee meeting of the Legislative Assembly, held March 12, 1987. The members who attended the meeting were Patti Litchfield, Noelle Frank, Rox anne Mennes, Jennifer Thomas, and Tammy Hopkins. Before any discussion on this topic, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies for the Subcommittee, regarding the tardiness in responding to the students concern of the Forum, first discussed in November 1986. The subcommittee felt that The Forum has improved since the issue was originally discussed. At the same time, however, the subcommittee noted the following general problems that they feel continue to exist.: 1. Inconsistency in publication; the newspaper isnt printed every two weeks. Incorrect factual statements; quotations in articles arent accurate. 3. The newspaper has become too personal; article coverage seems to include solely the personal interests of the newspaper staff. Also, some subcommittee members voiced complaints against the current front page 2. The subcommittees main suggestion for the newspapers improvement dealt with Increasing article coverage on the following topics: Reagan budget cuts 2. Salt Lake community activities 3. School activities 4. student coverage 1 apologize for the inconvenience in the subcommittees tardiness again. Thank you for your time. 1. Editor: It is Westminsters students, staff and faculty that is the colleges most valuable resource. I say that because the teamwork in- volved in pulling off events such as Communications Day on March 17 needs to be recognized. Just to mention a few examples of that cooperation the facilities set up in the Carle-so- n Center and in the Payne Gym were timely and complete. The Westminster students recruited to help at registration and in parking did so willingly and capably. Keith and his Saga staff dealt with feeding the large crowd admirably, and the staff from and business offices went out of their way to help whenever necessary. s From a public relations point of view, the event was a success. Those 200 high school students and advisors, many of whom had never visited Westminster, drove away with a good impression of the school. And the workshop presenters, all members of the Salt Lake communications community, left the campus enthused with their experience here and most offered to provide their expertise again wherever needed. Its teamwork that I feel Westminster should be proud of. That spirit of cooperation pays off for the college in many ways and makes all of our jobs a little easier. Sincerely, Dana Tumpowsky Director of Public Relations Social Disadvantages Stem From Lack Of Lounge Music Westminster Family Night Discount vouchers available in the Campus Life Office Available for students , faculty, staff and their families Tuesdayy April 28 April 3, 1987 Issue No. 14 To the Editor: Im puzzled. How can tuition be increased and more items be bought for the campus when what we have isnt being used Enrollment was up tremendously this year, and next years projection looks as good if not better. Unfortunately, there is not much going on around here to keep student interest up. What about the AMFM audio unit located in the Campus Life Office? cant we scrape off some of the dust and put the unit into use by having tunes in the (Syme) lounge? What the hell do they think lounge means? reel-to-re- el By having music in the lounge, students, staff and faculty would interact more in this casual setting. Since the destruction of OPUS, students of Westminster are socially disadvantaged. Lets wake up and enjoy school a bit and not be so uptight. Relax! Puzzled,-Mik- Maurice 4 P.S.
