ODonnell The beauty of Westminster College is that the faculty and students have taken it upon themselves to become friends, "says Mark Jones, who was recently honored as Westminsters 1984 Professor of the Year. Knowing this, I realize that there is no greater compliment that the seniors, my friends, could have given me. Pm overwhelmed. A behavioral College is more than the classroom. If Im learning by interactions in my classes, then I know the class is going well. I take responsibility for my learning, but I expect students to add to the learning process and accept the same responsibility for themselves. since 1975, Jones says he was never academic-oriente- d during high school and was even ready to drop out of college until he took a psychology class. That class lit a fire in me and psychology and the study of human behavior became a frontier I wanted to explore. I felt there was something in this area that I could do for others. poly-syllab- After graduating with a bachelors and masters degree from the University of Utah, Jones taught at the U of U and at Utah State U niversity. But he said at both universities there was too much of a sense of urgency to do everything except help students. When Jones heard there was an opening a. Wages Coors Boycott Campaign on College Campuses AFL-CI- O by Laurie Sullivan The AFL-CIhas recently targeted college students, urging them to join a national boycott effort against the Coors brewing company in what a brewery spokesman claimed is part of the unions goal to destroy the Adolph Coors ComO pany. A boycott campaign has been in effect since 1978, according to national coordinator David Sickler. But attacks denigrating Coors sharpened in late February after a Coors executive portedly insulted blacks while speaking before a group of minority businessmen in Denver on Feb. 23. William K. Coors should sign legal agreements eliminating them from being their own watchdog. That would be a good start, Sickler said. Fry in deep hot fat for 5 minutes. Drain on paper towel. Serve with sweet and sour sauce. 3-- Ingredients: 1 1 1 1 pound shelled walnuts, coarsely ground pound shelled almonds, coarsely ground cup granulated sugar 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon 12 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon ground cloves 12 teaspoon mace 1 pound filo pastry (can be bought frozen in Greek Market) 1 pound butter, melted it must flow easily whole cloves Honey syrup: 3 cups 3 cups 1 1 granulated sugar water teaspoon fresh lemon juice stick cinnamon 6 whole cloves peel of 1 orange (not grated) Chinese Cabbage Green Peppers 12 cups honey 1 Pastry: VEGETABLES Y teaspoon vanilla Onions Preparation: In a large bowl mix nuts with sugar and spices. Brush bottom of baking pan with melted butter. Then, brushing each with melted butter, place 6 sheets of filo in the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle on a thin layer of the nut mixture. Continue alternating filo, butter, and the nut mixture until all the nuts are used. Again, buttering between each layer, add 6 to 8 more filo sheets to the stack in the pan. Butter the top. Carrots Pork Bean Sprouts Salt Pepper Soy Sauce Preparation: Cut the Chinese Cabbage crosswise in 2 inch cubes, then cut into strips. Cut the onion in half then cut into wedges. Carrots can be cut in slices or in short strips. The pork should be h diced in cubes. Put in enough oil to lubricate the pan. Salt and pepper the pork then cook on high heat for 20 to 30 seconds while rapidly stirring. Then, add all the vegetables and continue stirring and keeping everything moving. Add the sauce a little at a time while cooking. DO NOT OVERCOOK! Vegetables should be crisp, not soggy. (Maximum cooking time 5 minutes.) one-inc- With a sharp serrated knife, cut the baklava into vertical strips a full wide. Be sure to cut to the bottom of the pan. Then cut these wide to form the small, strips diagonally traditional, diamond-shape- d pieces. Stick a whole clove in the center of each piece. Bake in a 300 oven for approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes (until evenly browned). ch ch |
