So 1 am changing the name of the column from sports comments to Serious and You Cant be Serious Sports Comments. Below is a listofthingslwould like to see happen in the world of sports. I would like to see . . . the Houston Cougars (not to be mistaken for the Brigham Young University Cougars) win the NCAA basketball championship on a d thunderous slam-dun- k by Akeem the Dream Olajuwon, only to have the basket ... last-secon- taken away by the referees because they say time had expired. Then have the refs use video tape from CBS that shows time had not expired and award the win to Houston. Remember this is NOT a prediction. . . .TheUtahJazz play all of its home games in the Salt Palace and none in Las Vegas. . . . Owner Sam Battistone sell his 50 percent of the team to Dr. Gerald Bagley. . . . Danny Ainge sign a million dollar contract to play professional football in either the United States Football League or the National Football League. Ainge has already tried baseball and failed and he hasnt faired much better in the NBA. . . . Sugar Ray Leonard knock-ou- Marvelous t Marvin Hagler in the fifteenth round and then retire from boxing for good after seeing that there is nothing else to accomplish. . . . The Westminster soccer team pack the bleachers at Dane Hansen Stadium and get the support of the students and administration. . . . The soccer team win the NAIA area tournament and go on to the NAIA national tournament. . . .Larry Brown, University of Kansas basketball coach, hire all the fathers of the top blue-chi- p high school players in the country as assistant coaches, so that the sons would play at Kansas and eventually win the National collegiate championship. . . .Billy Johnson, Olympic downhill champion, run for president of the United States and be victorious. . . . Steve Young, the rich and famous quarterback from BYU, lead the L.A. Express to the USFL championship and then buy the Utah Jazz from owner Dr. Gerald Bagley, who bought it from Sam Battistone. for Youngers Receives National Recognition minster. G.U.T.S. did indeed get the shirts as Dennis Magic McGarvey predicted at the beginning of the season. Soccer Play Performance loves soccer because of the constant motion. He likes the aspect of doing almost everything with his feet. According to Youngers, the upcoming season can be successful if Chris Dorich, the new coach, can recruit enough quality players. As a sophomore art major, Youngers likes to paint and sculpt. He hopes to one day take another shot at professional soccer. The best has a taste all its own. great honor and a little bit of a surprise, said Youngers. ! Youngers was also named Westminsters MVP of the Year. He learned to play soccer at the age of six and has now been playing for 14 years. He graduated from Derby High School in Kansas where he was MVP and defensive player of the year. At the age of 16, he became the youngest player ever to play in the Wichita Mens League where he was also the leading scorer. He played for Ottawa University and led the before team to the NAIA Regional play-off- s at the University of Kansas. red-shirti- Youngers has tried out for professional teams in Tulsa and Wichita and was one of the last players cut from the Wichita Wings. He turned down scholarships from Ottawa University, St. Johns and Arkansas University to attend West Kurt Youngers, Westminsters Most Valuable Player on the soccer field in 1 98 received honorable mention from NAIA. Booster Club Organizes to Support Soccer Team by John Dahmen The 1984-8- 5 Westminster soccer team will play for a new group of fans the Westminster Varsity Soccer Team Booster Club. This club is now being organized to support and promote Westminster soccer. The soccer team is a member of NAIA Region VII (Utah, Colorado, and Idaho) and has a new head coach, Chris Dorich. Members of the booster club will receive a season pass and a membership card for the upcoming season.
