Coal Deposits of Five Western States Described Coal reserves and analyses of coals of five western states are given in a new technical paper issued by the Bureau of Mines and now available for distribution through the Government Printing Office, Thos. H. Miller, Acting Director of the Bureau, announced today. Coal deposits in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon are described in the report, which also reviews the economic position of the coal industry in these states and the trend of development in recent years. The analyses of coal in the five states have been combined in one report because coal production has Wen too limited to warrant publication of separate papers. The report is another in the Bureau of Mines series on the analysis of American and Alaskan coals. Coal is found at many scattered localities in these states, but in most of the known occurrences thick coal beds are of Michigan Copper May Haye to Close HOUGHTON Mich. A new financial problem for Michigan may be involved in the veto by President Truman of the Allen bill to provide subsidies for the mining of certain metals. In Keweenaw and Houghton counties there are 50,000 persons dependent upon the mining of copper ore with the subsidy which would have been continued in the bill.
