Show dedicatory program sugarloaf Sugar loaf the formal opening and dedication of the st george sugarloaf Sugar loat loaf amphitheater was held wednesday even ing under the auspices of the st george commercial club prof E at hall directing there was a big gathering of people many hundreds it was next to impossible to obtain a count of them many of whom came in automobiles over the road made to that unique spot by action of the commercial club A piano had been taken there and the dixie band and college chorus were present the program commenced with a election by the band the dedicatory prayer was offered hy by john T woodbury jr oh ye mountains high was sung everybody joining in and sounded good up there among the hils A cornet duet was played by prof earl J bleak and clare gates the commercial club its alms and objects were outlined by W 0 bentley president of the club in such a manner as to leave no doubt of the intentions of the club and should be instrumental in lit securing a large membership among those present who have not already joined he was soundly applauded at the conclusion of his remarks the anvil chorus from 11 II it trovatore was superbly rendered by the D N C chorus under direction of prof jos wm mcallister McAll lster and raised such a vigorous encore that the chorus responded with 4 when the foreman bares the steel a splendid number excellently rendered chas H bigelow Bl gelow secretary of the arrowhead trails gave a splendid talk on the arrowhead trail he outlined what it meant to st george by convincing facts and figures showing that this city Is the natural hub for roads radiating to los angeles calif phoenix ariz the grand canyon salt lake and other points he outlined what was being done in arizona and california for the trail which will become one of the great transcontinental high ways the proposed boulder can yon dam on the colorado river below st thomas nev nov i and what it would mean to utah was clearly explained by mr bigelow gelow Bl it would furnish electrical energy tor for railroad lines industrial and many other purposes an immen seely beneficial project which seems to be in a fair way of becoming a reality tho the people were complimented by mr bigelow for the work done on the road to open up the amphitheater which he predl predicted eted would be a very valuable asset to st george the speaker was heartily applauded at the conclusion of his remarks A brass quartette was rendered by earl J bleak and others which was so heartily applauded that they re spondee with another excellent number pros nw 14 snow rinow gave a short talk on high on the mountain top in the course of which he referred to the alms of the pioneer fathers in bottling this section and the splendid opportunity they had opened up for those following to improve tha the beautiful spots by which they were surrounded he was loudly ap plau ded the Dr program finished with a lelec lion tion by the band many of the people returning home by the eastern road opened up from the amphitheater to pace a farm others by the new western road which joins the diagonal road near Hemen ways it was altogether a delightful out ing and now that this beautiful spot is made so easy of access it will no ila doubt be freely used for or outdoor programs and parties to a great extent the view obtained from froin the tho amphitheater phi phit theater heitter la Is and it will undoubtedly be a place much sought ought after by tourists when its grea great t scenic attractions la Is fully known to them |
