Show Friday September 29 1950 THE WEEKLY CARBONICLE Page Four Beetdiggers Entertain Wearing Letters Dinos Approved It's going to be lonesome about town today with all the football men showing their wares to other lucky people While the Eagles are performing at Ricks the Dinosaurs will play Jordan in Sandy tonight at 8 o'clock Carbon and Jordan are traditional rivals They have met in state championship games three times The scores of those games were 0 Carbon 6 Jordan 28-- 0 Jordan The last time Carbon played Jordan in 1946 the Dinos upset the Beetdiggers 21-- 7 The loss of Mayne Clingman who is out for the entire season is keenly felt by everyone Tom Taskar and Johnny Foloni are in for Mayne The Dinos left at 11:30 this morning and will return after the game The Utah School Activities has recently approved the wearing of fabric letters in Class A high schools Dr Jones stated that he had been fighting for the change of this rule since 1940 with no avail until just last spring He feels that only the persons who earn their letters by some kind of competition with other schools such as sports speech and music should be permitted to wear such He also said that the a letter junior high schools have been asked to prohibit the wearing of letters In past years only the college has been permitted to wear letters but that has all been changed now All high school students who earn their letters and have been approved by the student council will be permitted the privilege 7-- 6-- Cheer Leaders Elected Cheering at the games Friday and Saturday nights was led by our newly elected cheer leaders and song leaders Competition from several teams trying out was tough but the Wilma group of Joan Hardy Snow Claud Williams and Allan Bartlett won the applause and vote of the student body Wilma is the only one of the set with any previous experience but they work together excellently and will do a lot to bolster Carbon's spirit Song leaders Bonnie Faddis and Phyllis Daskalos the originators of the idea were again selected to lead our songs of praise They will appreciate and need full student support MASSEY CO Your Patronage Appreciated Special!
