Show UTAH LABOR NEWS Page Tivelve SALT LAKE WILL HAVE PUBLIC MARKET U The city commission has made an appropriation for the establishment of a public market on the south side of Fourth South, between State and Second East streets. Only producers will be permitted to display their wares, the city providing the grounds and a supervisor. Peddlers and commission men will be excluded. Should the municipal market receive the support of the buying public the city will later cover over the property and make of It a' perma- nent Institution. Many lvic organizations have been agitating for such establishment and the commission was of the opinion that there was a real public demand for the city to do something of the kind. We would like to see the city go Into the market business on a big scale, purchasing direct from the producer and selling to the consumer, but that is a big undertaking and should not the market receive the support of the buying public It would mean a big loss to the city. The municipal market should receive the hearty support of every Halt Laker to the end that the cost to consumers may be reduced.
