took refuge at freetown H village composed entirely of mogro families hero to mounted men congregated and armed themselves thon the residents aud property owners of this section called and finding a largo body of armed negroes demanded a surrender of their arms A number accepted tho terms thursday morning fifteen armed negroes took possession of the colored ministers house refusing to surrender the whites hearing of this sent a message with a command that they lay down their weapons within twenty minutes the again refused at tho expiration of the timo a volley was fired at them which soon became general the fusillade fusi lade lasting nearly an hour finally F P a white man was shot dead the negroes became panic stricken and fled when the fight was over the bodies of eight negroes were again if ho does not behave himself in the future and she appears to mean what she says car TOLEDO ohio aug 17 A freight train was standing on the side track near holland yesterday robbers broke into the car and carried away a lot of merchandise before being discovered by the train men who then drove them away with revolvers the police of this city were notified and tracked the robbers some distance but find them this morning a country woman reported her boys while out looking up cows had discovered a cave filled with valuables of all kinds the officers hurried to the spot named and found hundreds of dollars worth of silks velvety velvets vel vets jow alery and miscellaneous merchandise stealing from the trains in that vicinity had been going on a long time and had been a great mystery the officers have hopes of catching the band of thieves |
