Show International Program elects U dean as head Dr. Lowell L. Bennion, associate dean of students and professor of sociology, will serve as director of ihe fourth annual University of Utah International Study Program alKiel, Germany in 1970. The travel study program, co-sponsored co-sponsored by the Divisions of International In-ternational Education and Confirming Con-firming Education, trains 15 to 25 students each year at Christian-Albrechts Christian-Albrechts University in the north German port city. . Students must have a working knowledge of German, usually four or five quarters, since lectures are conducted in German. Courses are open to students in political science, history, literature, philosophy philos-ophy and other academic areas as well as those with language majors. Arrangements traditionally have been made for students to live in campus dormitories or in private homes in Kiel. They also take side trips to neighboring countries and scenic areas of Germany . Christian-Albrechts University is a widely respected institution, Dr. Bennion said. More than 300 years old, it has a distinguished faculty and serves about 8,000 students on two campuses, one old and one new. -Since the two-school contract was signed four years ago, more than 50 University students have participated in the Kiel program. A group of 16 is there now under direction di-rection of Dr. Heinz F. Rahde, associate as-sociate professor of languages. Dr. Bennion received his B.A. degree in history and political science at the University of Utah and his doctorate at the University of Strasbourg. He also has studied at Erlangen University and the University Uni-versity of Vienna. He is a former director of the Institute of Religion operated adjacent to the lower campus by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dr. Bennion has held many leadership positions in the church and community. com-munity.
