Show the gold canon mines 1 below wo we insert an interesting description ol 01 0 the gold canon mines recently discovered vo ti jiahe received from the same correspondent tit th mining laws adopted in that district which will bo 1 published in our next issue we will be glad to hear from the several mining di districts in this territory with a description of the discoveries etc correspondence of the union onion Vea vedette ette camp douglas U tt decost dec 1863 1 these mines are situated in a range of mo running north and south along the eastern toi dary dars line t of tories tones west of balf bait lake city and let 10 east of the reese rees river district directly on the overland mail route near egan canon station the mines were discovered about the of se september last by thomas beighle a volunteer in u co E ad 0 CV V and like all discoveries of that kind it created no little excitement among amon all c lasses classes citizens and soldiers flocked to th the e place all eager to get 11 feet and it was but a short time before companies K of the cavalry and E of th do infantry were pretty well represented on abee mountains for in about six weeks no less tta that fourteen distinct ledges of silver and gold beara quartz were discovered and located which la ba been tested and found to be rich in both gold ani and silver the most prominent of these ledges at present are the gold canon lilly dale mcgeary hope atmore and golconda rock from some of these ledges has assayed as high as 2000 to the ton that this is going to be a good mining district no one who has seen these ledges or had any experience in quartz mining has the least doah bonu for wood and water it is not surpassed by any minin mining district in nevada territory in that particular nicular r it is far ahead of virginia city or the reese river districts and I 1 doubt not that it will come coma up to either cither of those places in the richness ot of its mineral three quartz mills are now under orders order for that place in the spring there is a city almol laid out and we look for a grand rush there eana next summer timber for fire wood and tanner log can be lud had in abundance close by land bufor ranching is found within a short dt distance stancO of the le mines plenty of good fresh water gushes out ot along the eastern base of the mountains it is our humble yet honest opinion that the gold canon mining district is destined to be one of 01 i i richest in this western country As I 1 have beba there and seen all this myself I 1 speak whereof I 1 know FRANK |
