Mr. Bottonfleld pointed out that the complex, which Is a tribal undertaking, should be under construction this summer, with completion planned before the tourist season of 1969. The unit, which he explained with the help of drawings, will be adjacent to the highway 40, between the highway and the reservior. Included in the planned complex will be approximately 28 motel units, a resturant and convention room, hobby shop, arts and crafts area, and an enclosed area where Indian dances or other entertainment could be held. Union had the misfortune of losing Jim Marshall with a broken leg in the Thursday game. This took away some of their height advantage, and hamper-e- d their efforts, particularly in Saturday's game with a taller North Sanpete crew. One thing we noticed at the tournament, in the few games we watched, was the apparent variance in officiating. We did not feel that the officiating was partial for one team, but there seemed to be a wide difference in calls from one game to the next, with a different set of Defensive moves officials. which were allowed in one game, would result in a called foul in another. Or offensive aggressiveness which proved valuable in one game, might result in a called infraction of the rules. As we understand the new basketball rules, put into effect this season, changes were aimed at eliminating some of the advantages ofthe(tall man'1 team. It gave the little guy a chance at the ball, through agressive defensive acts. However, in some games of the assistance tournament, this for the small or agressive team was withdrawn by officials who called a much closer ball game than the liberalized rules would seem to dictate. We did not feel that the officiating was poor at the tournament. On the contrary, the games we witnessed were The one comment we heard, however, was to the affect that there was too much difference between the calling in various games. It was apparent to many that a strong advantage could be given or tak- en from a particular team simple by the type of calls that were made. A prime example of this fact, according to fans who were on hand for the Emery-Wasatgame Friday evening, was this contest which saw Emery pushed out of the championship bracket. Although we did not see the game, it was the topic of conversation Saturday, and not just from Emery Backers. One man who was from Manti, made the statement that Emery was robbed. He felt that the officiating, although not intentionally partial, destroyed the type of play that has kept Emery on the top of the heap all year. The same thing happened, to a - lesser degree perhaps, in the . second and fourth Union games.
