Brough has been en- tered as a canridale in the Mother of the Year contest by the Women's Civic League. The contest is sponsored by the Federated Women's clubs of the state, and the nam e of Mrs. Brough has been entered with others from the Northern Utah district. The winner will be announc- Z c club Members of the met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Corinne Anderson. First part of the evening was occupied with a business meting presided over by the club president Miss Sophria Woerner. Following the business meeting the members were entertained by a book review. Mrs. Reba Hards reviewer the book, "O Rugged Land of Gold", by Mar tha Martin. The evening was concluded with refreshments served by the hostess, Mrs. Anderson, assisted by Mrs. Hards. ed Saturday. -- Mrs. Brough is a .native of Utah, attended Morgan county schools and was graduated from the University of Utah, and 4amrKt nrhool for four vears. She and her husband, Owen L. Brough own a good larm in East Tremonton and a cattle Tanch in Nevada. They have reared a family of three daughters and four sons. The eldest son, O. L. Brough Jr., holds a Ph.D degree from Iowa State College. In addition to her musical ability, Mrs. Brough has written dozens of poems and has had three accepted for publication in Utah magazines. She loves flowers and enjoys her rose and crysanthemum garden, and carries arms full of flowers to friends, neighbors, and those who are ill. D.U.P. Entertained The Midland Camp Daughters of Utah Pioneers was graciously entertained Friday afternoon by Mrs. Donald J. Homer at her home. Vice president, Rosa C. Hunsaker presided and read a bulletin from the Central committee, announcing the annual state convention to be held April 4 at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City. The lesson on the Life of Mary Eliza Partridge Lyman was given by Agnes Earl, and program numbers included a reading by Polly Smith, a piano solo by Carol Jane Homer, and a reading by Karen Homer. Refreshments were served by Peck, who plan to leave in the near future to make their home in Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. J. Delos Thompson and son Allen of Brigham City were also guests at the dinner. Shower Given For Mrs. Bolton A baby shower was eiven for Helen Bolton Saturday evening. About sixteen friends enjoyed the social which was held at the home of Mrs. Thomas Summers with Mrs. Ray Rhodes and Mrs. Russel Brown as Bunco was played and many lovely gifts presented. Booklore Club Feted The members of the Booklore club were graciously entertain ed Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. C. R. Brough at her home. The program arranged by Alice Harris was a book review of "Interrupted Melody", by Margie Lawrence, given in a very interesting manner by Lois Anderson. By-ingto- n, Betty Deakin Honored By Friends Betty Deakin was guest of honor at a bridal shower Miss Monday evening in Salt Lake City. Hostesses for the event were Joan Peterson and Alma Francis. Betty's mother, Mrs. Ed Deakin and sister, Miss Gaye Deakin were also guests at the party, which was held In the recreation room of the nurse's home at the L.D.S. hospital. Eighteen friends of the bride-eleenjoyed the evening together, and presented her with some lovely gifts. ct 'r I The group will be accompanied by Dr. J. LaVar Bateman, Director of Forensics. All students will enter in Debate and in the Student Congress. Carolyn Jensen, Tremonton, will enter in Interpretation, Oratory. The group will travel by station wagon, and will spend the first night at Vale, Oregon. Wednesday they will travel north to Pendleton, Oregon and down the Columbia River valley to Portland. Following the meet they will return to Provo via Corvallis, Eugene, Bend and Burns, Oregon. The students won the trip by winning various Forensic Meets, Fall and Winter quarters, Dr. Bateman said. 'I ' ' " ' - - 4' Honored A bridal shower was given Friday night in compliment to Miss Betty Deakin, whose engagement and forthcoming marriage have been announced. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. David Stander and Mrs. Tony Stander. The luncheon tables were centered with a miniature bride and groom and the gift table was adorned with a lovely bride doll. Each guest received a corsage of violets as a favor. The guest of honor received many lovely gifts from her friends. Monte Carlo Whist was played and prizes won by Doreen Iverson and Jean Nelson. - con- NEW BABIES NAMED The ward drama festival will be held next Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. Three one-aplays will be presented. A beautiful five tiered wedding cake was displayed on a lace coverer table, which was trimmed in keeping with the other colors and decorations for the event. Mr. and Mrs. Reid Oyler were receptionists, and Miss Mildred Moore was in charge of the guest book. Refreshments were handled by Mrs. Floyd Dunn, Mrs. Dave Holdaway, Mrs. Boyd Miller, and Mrs. . Vern Oyler, and the gift room was in care of Mrs. Leland L. Nelson and Mrs. Lor-i- n Jeppson. For her going away costume, the bride wore an ensemble of pink and grey with grey accessories. The bride is a graduate of Box Elder high school and has been an employee of the Mt. States Telephone company in Baigham Citv. Mr. Oyler is a graduate of Bear River high school. He was engaged in farming at Stravell prior to his entrance 'n the U. S. army last October.
