They spent a great deal of time, teaching in the Navaho boarding schools, and helping the young children get ready to go to school, here in Utah, either at the Intermountain school, or to stay in private homes and attend our public schools. Often, getting a child ready would require a great deal of preparation. Getting papers signed and notorized because parents of the children could not read or write, locating proper authorities las to the child's religion and other affairs, making sure they have all the information necessary to get the child into the home or school best suited for that child The Navaho people were very grateful for everything the missionaries could do for them, and they showed their appreciation freely. Often, a man or a woman would he so pleased with the message the missionaries brought to them, that they would cry, or offer them small gifts. In many cases, the Petits were beggrd to return, or to visit a son or a daughter, or to help a loved ore. While one old man made a bow and arrow special for Mr. Petit, others showed their plea sure, by naming their babies after them. There were six little Indian baby girls named Vera May, and three boys named Eric William for the PetiLs while they were there. One mother even gave them the cradle board in which she had kept er baby, named Vera May All these little things are part of what made their two years so wonderful. The Petits have had many wonderful years in their life together. Mrs. Petit was born In England, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brewster, and came to Canada when she wa$ five years old. There she became very much aware of what a tease a boy can be. He later moved to Salt Lake City with his widowed mother and four brothers and sisters.
