Latest U.S. Gov't Report ABSOE&rE&Y PURE The I'ne of Printer's Ink. The progressive farmer believes in printer's ink. It is t lie nitrogen of trade, because it stimulates desire on the part of the consumer, and shows him where to go and satisfy that desire. de-sire. Fanners should not leave this valuable business aid to the townspeople. towns-people. An advertisement in the local paper. -neat circular or card will alwa- help trade. There is another m f r prinirr's ink that is important, ll is well brought out in the following letter in the Rural New Yorker: Why should not every farmer have his name and address plainly printed on letterheads and envelopes? It would not cost more than $2 or $3 a year, and would be of great convei -ijnee to hiscorrespondents, ami an ii -dication of good business methods on bis part. The need of it is apparent to anyone who has even a small correspondence. cor-respondence. It is surprising the number of people there are in the world who can write everything moderately plain except their own names and that of the town in which they live. 1 have had more than the : usual amount of trouble from this cause In the past few months, and many letters have not been answered simply because I either could not make out the writer's name, and so did not know whom to aJdrcss, or else I could not determine where to send the letter, have on my desk As an example, 1 . while writing this , letter, two letters from different men, both of whose signatures are atso: lutely illegible. I have submitted these signatures to a number of good, . f ' .1 ....... l..A'.t business men, and no one has been able to decipher them. How can one answer such letters? It is a common thing for writers to leave off their state, but the postmark usually solves this difficulty. Sometimes not. A letter was recently received from r.ridgevilie, no state, and no pnst - mark on the envelope. The postal guide gives nine towns in the United States. of this name Where would 'you send ;.n answer? Printed letter- heads cost very little more than plain paper. When they are used therecan terest in the roads, which would give be no question about the name and them a through line of their own headdress, he-address, and besides this, their use tween the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, gives the impression that the farmer The first mortgage bond holders, using them is more enterprising than j though, will of course have the tlrst his neighbor A good impression to make. (Jrand Kennlon. The Springville Post of Minute Men and Home Guards of Utah Indian Wars held their second annual reunion re-union at Reynolds Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 12th. More than three hundred people attended and the old warriors and their descendants had a glorious IJiirv. A ."full program wnJrendered a . - mm tr at intervals during tin; picnic, many speeches were made and all who desired de-sired had a chance to relate their reminiscences of adventure in early days. Lunch was served in a sumptuous sump-tuous manner, and after the tables were cleared away, "on with tl.e dance" was then in order. Mr. John Groesbeck of Salt Lake City and his two daughters-, and W. li. Dougall and family were the guests of honor. The fun of the evening was supplied by Mr. Geo. Storrs, Sr., who took the lloor for a Scotch Reel with two partners, part-ners, the combined weight of them being more t han tiOO pounds. The reuniou commenced at 2::!0 p. in. and the festivities were wound up at 1:30 a. m. next morning. Al ten; inn Inventors! The Scientific American, in relation ; to the cigarette habit, claims that thousands of cigarette smokers would give up the pernicious habit and smoke pipes, which is acknowledged to be the least harmful of all the various forms of using the weed, if they could only obviate the strong smell arising from the ordinary pipe now in use, and prevent the smoke from biting their tongues. Continuing, Continu-ing, the Scientific American remarks that a fortune awaits the man who invents such u pipe. Here's a chance for inventors, in addition to the fortune for-tune that awaits the inventor of the pipe; a bigger fortune awaits the man who'll invent a smoker who won't smoke the nine after it is invented. The only course now left to the government is to foreclose the mortgages and sell the two railroads rail-roads to the highest bidder, as was done in the case of the Utah Northern .& Oregon Short Line railroads. If j Huntington & Co. don't get a move on them soon now, thev'll both hear and feel something drop. It is rumored rum-ored that the Vandeibilts would much like to own the controling in- say. A New Way to Argue. Prof. J. I). Hawley has written a book entitled "Infallblc Logic." He staits in by accepting the view of certain authorities that Aristotle wa6 the first scientific logician. He treats all logic, from the student of geometry standpoint His examples are very interesting and he proves beyond a doubt to his readers that his methods of geometrical construction on all matters pertaining to logic are very reasonable. All that the corner grocery logicians need now is a five dollar bill to buy the book with, a square and a pair of compasses to enable en-able them to discuss the silver question ques-tion scientifically as well as geometrically, geometri-cally, while toasting their shins at Gid Wood's heating stove. Constipation in its worst forms, dyspepsia, sick headache, biliousness and derangemeut of the liver are readily cured by DeWict's Little Early Risers. These little pills never gripe. Small pill, safe pill, best pill. The Reorganized Koads. Now that the mortgages on the Utah Northern, , the Oregon Short L.ue and the Utah Southern Railroads Rail-roads have been foreclosed and the management transferred to new men, considerable construction work may be confidently looked for. The roadbed road-bed from Provo to Milford is in shocking shock-ing condition and it is to be hoped that the coming Spring will And lots of Utah county men at work for the new company. While not stated as an absolute fact, It Is nevertheless rumored that S.'S. Jones of Provo has secured, or Is about to secure, a large tie contract. The lies are to be cut up ProvoCanyon and will be floated down the Trovo river; if so, they will be worth something some-thing apiece by the time they reach -4he railroad. Hungeriord Academr Notes. , On account of ill health, Miss Stalker has been compelled to stop teaching for a few weeks. The total enrollment at present is about laO pupils.
