Three month. 2.00 l.oo DISCOURAGS THE TftAMPS; Springville is a great dii'npinp; place for thitt species of mankind known as the hobo. Of course there ma be a large number of ihein who are merely tinfoil-(mates tinfoil-(mates ami uvo "touring" the t:ooi!!try h.V nature's means of i Irausil aibl are perfectly honest in their search for labor, ami it Slioilhl he provided them. Ail ir!irt stop off in Springville rdionld be provided with a public meal and should giVe tjuid pro j juo, for the same. The disposition of this class j bf people has been a vexed ijues- i lion in cities of a larger proportion propor-tion than Springville boayls and but very few cities in the Stale mo situated us convenient for the festive pilgrim ns Springville n ltd we think. some means should be adopted whereby a certain amount of wotk should be done hoth by the honoat tramp and Hie hobo. In some cities of this country a rock-pile is inaugurated inaug-urated where all people kept by the city arc expected to pay lor their keep, and perhaps a little more, by breaking up these rocks or stones into small pieces, to be placed on the public roads, and 'ere long the very best macadamised macadam-ised highways ure established. The farmers owning land abutting abut-ting the principal streets are invited in-vited lo throw tho stones and Small rooks into the streets in (small piles, which are soon reduced re-duced to the best kind of road (nuterial, and it is not long before be-fore that- (own is carefully avoided by the tramp or hobo element. If this or sonic other system of utilizing tho transient labor, tor remuneration for satno' were inaugurated, that cxcrablo piece )f lnnd nnd swamp, some times Called a road, between Father (tiles'tj houso and the Union l'acific platform might soon be converted into a creditable drive and bicyelu truck, which would bo noted tnd commented on by passengers on the Union Pacific. The distance is just exactly one ra ilo and could bo made most acceptable as a race track for bicycle rideis, who would gladly assist in maintaining its condition condi-tion for this purpose. One of tho first points of interest in-terest noted by passengers on through trains of the Sanpete branch of the H G. W. is the fiuo roads leading Irom the depots to tho towns. This is re-ruarkably re-ruarkably so at Mt. Pleasant, "Micro a broad, clean and level toad can be seen almost up to tho mountains east of town. Sonic may say our road from the H. G. V. is a good road. Yes, it is a little- better than the one from the U. P. track, but is no clear index to the beautiful town of Springville. It is often bountifully fringed with weeds and embellished with tiiud-puddles tiiud-puddles froiu careless irrigators or pfodigal street sprinklers (seldom tire latter). St. Maik's Hospital was in corporated in 1 STU, and has boon ; r . i ' in operation ever since, in iiiej autumn of IS!) 3 the old buildings on Fifth Ivi.it and Third South otreels weie abandoned and the liandioino new hospital, just built lit the north end of the Salt Lake City, opposite the Warm Springs bathing houses, was put into use. With the many improvements over the old buildings, a groat increase of patronage has been extended to the hospital, and the authorities authori-ties arc now forming plans for the erection of a wing, so soon as tho necessary funds can be secured. A most cordial invitation in-vitation is given those who are iiileroslod in hospital work to visit tho institution. It has a largo, light and commodious operating room, whore the lest possible attention can bo given to those who need surgical aid. Last spring an ambulance was added to the hospital equipment, equip-ment, so that patients coming in from a distance might be carefully care-fully moved from the depots to the hospital on a cot stretcher provided for that purpose, or city patienhs conveyed from their homes with assistance from a physician when necessary or hospital nurses and attendants. The bright, airy, clean rooms and corridors of the hospital at tract favorable notice, and a good stull of nurses, and carefully ire-pared ire-pared food, offer special advantages ad-vantages to those who need hospital accommodation. The writer had groat pleasure in meeting the President of the Hospital, IJishop Abiel Leonard and Resident Physician A. C. Hehle, both gentlemen who take deep interest in the welfare of the institution and its patrons, many of whom are impecuuious, but are never the less just as well treated. A love of humanity unci a desiro to alleviate their sufferings seems to pi-evade everyone from tho gentle tread of the efficient nurso to the business busi-ness department whose terms of admission are arranged with that tact and kindness, which make you foil perfectly welcome and at home. Up in the gruesome operating room that same careful, care-ful, considerate and kindly sympathy sym-pathy prevails.
