Show Vocational Section "We must be choosers of our vocation if we fit ourselves for the best in life," said Prof. A. N. Merrill Mer-rill in his opening address on vocational guidance Monday morning. morn-ing. He asserted that the choosing choos-ing of a vocation is very important impor-tant because it is often a lifetime choice. "It should be part of the duty and function of our schools to assist as-sist the youth in selecting something some-thing for which he if fitted," said Professor Merrill. "Heretofore little has been done with the problem. Fathers have encouraged their sons to follow their line of work, which has started many young people on life pursuits for which they were unqualified." He stated that the allurement of money is very illusive to young people peo-ple generally, who select vocations for which they are unfit because they visualize only the getting of money. Professor Merrill maintained that is was essential that industry and school co-operate in assisting the youth to select his life work. |
