The Central Utah project will effect six counties, namely Utah county, where 78 million dollars will be spent; Juab, to have three and a half million dollars spent; Wasatch, 80 million; Duchesne, 60 million, Uintah, eight and a half million and Salt Lake county four million. In the primary phase of the project, pro-ject, there will be a dam constructed con-structed from the Provo bay area which will drain approximately 10,000 acres of new land now under un-der the lake, it is stated. The Central Utah project begins be-gins at Uintah Basin above Vernal Ver-nal and it is expected that the contract for this part of the project pro-ject which will include a dam above Vernal will be ready within a year. The project will include a pickup pick-up system for the water in the high Uintahs above Uintah Valley to be conducted into Strawberry reservoir through a series of tunnels tun-nels which will aggregate 196,000 feet, averaging nine feet in diameter. dia-meter. Of the 196,000 feet, there will be 43,000 feet of 8-foot pipe which will constitute the longest tunnel. As was stated in last week's Her- - 1 "if" -"' w .... - r: . This will require realignment of much of the road in Strawberry Valley as well as new road building. build-ing. There is to be constructed also a high-line canal around the foothills foot-hills out of Spanish Fork canyon, above Spanish Fork, Payson, Salem, Sa-lem, Santaquin and Mona, increasing increas-ing the content of Mona Dam which Water ' will irrigate Goshen Valley including the entire Alberta Alber-ta canal system. The present tunnel leading from Strawberry into Diamond Fork will be increased . to a 12 foot. Water will run through four power'plants in Diamond Fork generating 61,000 Kw or over 400 millions KW hours per year. It will empty behind a dam to be constructed at Monk's Hollow (Diamond Fork) 160 feet high. The electricity from these plants will be brought to a central distributing plant in Utah county coun-ty as reported last week. This central distributing plant will distribute all electricity from the development to the municipalities, municipali-ties, which are to have an opportunity oppor-tunity to use the power before it is let to private industry. With the increased water supply plus the huge dams planned under the project, it is readily seen that wildlife will be increased and the beauty of the entire state will be greatly enhanced. As result of the project, there is to be constructed a fish hatchery hatch-ery within the state with greater capacity than all of the present hatchei'ies combined. Plans also call for two complete townsites to be built, one at Glenn Canyon, the approximate size of -Boulder City, Nev., and another at Flaming Gorge, not quite so large. The towns . will be complete with new schools, churches and business sections, and are expected expect-ed to be permanent. New roads will be constructed to both places, the nearest point to Flaming Gorge, being out of Greenriver, Wyo. The closest railroad rail-road to Glen Canyon is at Flagstaff, Flag-staff, Ariz., a distance of 135 miles through mountaineous terrain, and the next closest is Marysvale, and Cedar City, the latter two being about 185 miles away. As result of the project, there will be a total of 15 dams built in Utah, one of which is to be an exclusive fishing dam in Wasatch county a few hundred yards off the paved highway, it is reported. Construction on the project is expected to reach a peak in about 10 years and estimates on completion comple-tion of the entire works varies from 20 to 30 years, according to reports. |
