The Helaman Academy curriculum also emphasizes history and geography, classical children's literature, science, art, choral music and physical education — all taughtfroman LDS perspective. "When we teach history," Madsen says, "we teach 'providential' history — that is, God's hand in the progress and purposes of history. The LDS canon of scripture is at the foundation, with original source material and the teacher's own scholarship as the building blocks. This makes learning come alive for the children in the context of what they are also taught at home and church." Enrollment is now open for full- and part-time programs. Students with special needs and a public school IEP quali- fy for full-tuition scholarships through the state Carson Smith Scholarship program, if they also meet Helaman Academy's enrollment guidelines. Part-tuition scholarships based on financial need may be available through Children First Utah, an independent private school scholarship fund. Visit ChildrenFirstUtah.org for details of both scholarship programs. For more information, call 801 -798-3444 for or visit HelamanAcademy.com.
