"Most of the nay-sayers are uninformed," Thomas said, "and usually after they hear what is really happening with the park, they are happy about it." In reference to the new development, the mayor said the increase in economic activity will be huge plus for residents and give the city an opportunity to attract new businesses to Spanish Fork, something he feels that most residents are really excited about. City Attorney JuniorBaker said, "There will still be a park at North Park," and he wants people to know that while the park will be relocated and reduced somewhat in size — from 15 acres currently, to 10 acres — he believes it will be one of the most attractive parks in the city. Baker also noted that while North Park will be smaller, residents should also know that as a part of this deal, the city has purchased 33 acres of land on the east side for the future park development. "We are losing five acres and getting 33, "Baker said. As for news on' which commercial businesses will set up shop in the new development, an announcement is expected sometime in mid July. According to Baker, the developer, Westfield Properties, is still working out logistics and is not ready to make a formal announcement as of yet. |
