Recently, I read some material that dealt with dining or sealing ditches with Bentonite, some of the information might be worth passing on. According to the article, you can line seven miles of a ditch or canal for what it takes to line one mile of canal w'ith the cheap-est. lining. now in common use. you can put Bentonite lining in your ditches for about the same lime, money, and effort that it takes to clean them. They gave an example of what happened when they lined two miles of ditch in sandy land near Fort Collins, Colorado. On this job, they used ten tons of Bentonite, and the total cost of the Bentonite installed was $300.00. This lining saved 100 acre feet of water each year. The irrigation company figured that the water was worth ten dollars per acre foot. This meant a saving of $1000.00 per irrigation a more than 300 perseason cent anual return on the original Investment. - Before lining, 50 percent of the water was lost through seepage. Frost, president of Kanab Stake, announced that because of conflicting programs, Soil Stewardship Sunday will be observed in all wards of the stake on May 20th. One of the High Councilmen visiting each of the wards has been asked to speak on the subject of soil stewardship. Material to help those giving these talks was purchased by the Kane County Soil Conservation District and made available to the stake presidency.
