Falsehoods From the NEA Reprinted from Gazette Telegragh Colorado Springs, Colorado Weve seen a lot of stuff and nonsense in venture. Nor are the results better. Usually, they aru worse. But recently a little booklet reached our desk which is copyrighted by this outfit and is published by its own comipittee on educational finance, And this one, believe it or not, has the temerity to introduce itself by the title: Taxes Are Good. If the Post Office Department is supposed to prevent the circulation of outright lies and vicious propaganda, someone in the department slipped up when this NEA publication got into the mails. world-renown- Tne booklet goes on to say that the faults of taxation which have been noted in history . . . taxes imposed without the consent of the people . . . taxes used unwisely . . . and so on . . . that these faults have been cured. The booklet says: These faults no longer exist. , If this were true, it would be the greatest' news story of the century. It isnt news because it is not true. These faults not only exist, they exist in greater abundance than ever before in American history. Also, they are getting worse with each passing minute. Yet, the NEA has the temerity This is not only false, it is hopelessly irrational. Omitted from this sweeping statement is anything which indicates that before a single tax is collected, production must occur and profits must be earned. Taxes are loot, plunder, booty, taken by force from those who have produced something. Taxes produce nothing. But taxes can be employed to purchase some of the things others have produced.. This is true. However, when government collects taxes from producers and then uses that money to purchase some of the things producers have made, the evidence is mountain high that the cost to government is HIGHER and not lower than it would be if someone other than government made the purchases. This is so well known and 'so obviously true and so thoroughly substantiated that it is little less than shocking to see the NEA in this entirely indefensible position of claiming that taxes get you more for your dollar than is otherwise the case. ed Captain llaruld A. Inside the front cover, the little publication makes its first claim to fame by the recitation of an outriht falsehood. It says: Its true! Taxes are good for they bring all of us more per dollar than we could buy on our own. 13, 10-d- ay our time.
