Show Cyan Magenta Yellow Black A6 Sanpete Messenger / Sanpete Messenger-Gunnison Valley Edition BIRTHS ANNIVERSARIES Thomas Lee Monroe A beautiful dark-haired baby boy named Thomas Lee Monroe was born to James and Karen Monroe of Dallas, Texas, on December 22, 2004. Thomas arrived at 3:15 p.m. at the Medical Center of Plano in the midst of one of Dallas’s relatively uncommon but significant snowstorms. He weighed 7 lbs., 14 oz. Thomas joins big brothers James Barton, age 5, and Zachary Don, age 2. Proud grandparents are Barbara Sue and the late Donald K. Barton of Manti, and Lee and Mary Monroe of Scipio. On Feb. 1, 2005 a girl was born to Jaymes and Adrian Berry of Salina. She weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and will be named Sydney Anne Blythe Berry. On Feb. 1, 2005 a boy was born to Bradley and Cassandra Stevens of Elsinore. He weighed 5 pounds 8 ounces and will be named Brody Michael Stevens. BIRTHDAYS First~Ashley Behling Ashley Behling, the daughter of Josh and Kim Behling of Ferron, celebrated her first birthday on Jan. 23, 2005. Ashley is a busy girl. She gets into everything. She loves to play with her dolls, and especially her big brothers, Hunter and Stephen. Ashley is the granddaughter of Reid and Claire Cox of Manti and Steve and Diane Behling of Ferron. Great-grandparents are Melva and the late Max Cox of Ephraim, Rulon and Barbara Behling, Diane and LaVern Steele and Graig and Helen McCaul. Ashley Behling MISSIONS Farewell Jared Worthington Billings Montana Mission Jared Kent Worthington, the son of Kent and Gloria Worthington of Gunnison has been called to serve in the Billings, Montana Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Jared will speak in the Gunnison 1st Ward on Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on March 2. Lynn and LouConne Nuffer Lynn and LouConne Nuffer of Manti will celebrate 50 years of togetherness on Valentine’s Day. The years have passed swiftly and have been packed full of excitement and fun with seven children and 21 grandchildren. They recently learned that their first great-grandchild is on the way. Both Lynn and LouConne were both raised in the Salt Lake area and were married in the Salt Lake City Temple, which is also where both their parents and grandparents were married After spending four years in the Navy and 14 years at Winder Dairy, they took advantage of an opportunity to move to Sanpete. They have now been here over 32 years and have loved it. Life has been even busier in Sanpete than it was in Salt Lake. For seven years they loved serving as EMTs on the Manti-Ephraim Ambulance. After a failed boat business, Lynn worked for Hal Keller on the turkey farm, was chief of police, and built wood burning stoves for Hall’s Industries. They have both held many positions in the LDS Church, but have enjoyed those where they were able to work together the most. They served a mission in Lansing Michigan from 1995-1997 OBITUARIES Ray Donald Eicher 50th~Nuffer Gunnison Valley Hospital On Jan. 28, 2005 a girl was born to Eric and Mindy Mason of Aurora. She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and will be named Alli Mason. On Jan. 27, 2005 a boy was born to Daryl and Valerie Christensen of Richfield. He weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and will be named Levi Dale Christensen. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 and are presently serving as parttime missionaries at the Dry Pack Cannery. They both worked with the pageant for many years in various capacities. They have had several teaching assignments, one of their favorites being the 12 to 14 year olds, which they taught for four years after they returned from Michigan. They enjoy spending time with children and grandchildren and Lynn has had a hand in teaching nearly all of them to swim. He won many medals and ribbons for swimming and diving as a youth. LouConne has loved sewing for the pageant and for her children and grandchildren. She also loves to read and has many shelves filled with books she has shared with her family and husband. She read aloud to them every chance she got, especially as they were traveling for the stove companies for which Lynn worked. Lynn is currently a bus driver for the South Sanpete School District and he loves his association with the young people he transports to the Alternative School in Ephraim.Lynn and LouConne look forward to many more years with family and friends and each other. Ray Donald Eicher, 79, passed away Feb. 5, 2005 in Fairview. He was born April 6, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ray Donald Eicher and Lorena Siekerman. Ray served in WWII as an anti-aircraft gunman and as a T/ 4 section leader in the Philippines from 1943 to 1946. During his service he was stationed at Fort Douglas at the University of Utah where he met Rena Evelyn Sinclair. They were married in East Cleveland, Ohio on June 20, 1946 shortly after his discharge from the Armed Forces. Ray enrolled at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio for two years. They then moved to the Utah State Agricultural College at Logan. He graduated on June 2, 1950 with his BS degree in agronomy. On Jan. 17, 1952 he was confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. In February 1952 Ray and Rena moved to Round Rock, Ariz. on the Navajo Indian Reservation where he worked as a soil scientist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He worked for the Bureau for the next 23 years, living at Mexican Springs, N. M.; Crown Point, N. M.; Tuba City, Ariz.; Farmington, N. M. and Chinle, Ariz. On May 25, 1958 he was ordained an elder in the LDS Church. He and Rena had their marriage solemnized in the Manti Temple on March 27, 1959. His beloved wife and companion passed away Dec. 7, 2003. Ray held many leadership positions in the LDS Church including, Moenkopi branch president, president of the Tuba City District in Tuba City, Ariz.; President of the fifth quorum of elders in Farmington, N. M.; president Ray Eicher of the Chinle District, Chinle Ariz. and first counselor in the Southwest Indian Mission. He also served on the high council of the Mount Pleasant Stake. Ray and Rena both served 15 years as temple workers in the Manti Temple. Ray served as the Fairview Lions Club President and in 1977 he was elected Mayor of Fairview. Ray is survived by his children, Ray Donald (Kathleen), David James, Daniel Matthew, and his sister Ruth Elaine Ruzica; his grandchildren, Jonathan Ray (Tonia), Benjamin Dan (Theresa), Elizabeth Kae, Daniel Evan, Danielle, Kaili, and his great grandchildren, Paul Benjamin and Lydia Evelyn. Funeral services will be held Thursday Feb. 10, 2005, at 1 p.m. in the Fairview 1st Ward Chapel at 121 South State Street. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Rasmussen Mortuary at 90 North 100 W. in Mt. Pleasant and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to12:30 p.m. at the Church prior to services. Interment will be in the Fairview City Cemetery.
