blanding chapel to enjoy a program that was sponsored by the mutual improvement associations of the bland blanding ing and grayson wards after the opening exercise the time was turned over to wallace vickers who was in charge of the traveling musical group lie he is also in charge of the english department at the university he represents ile he introduced miss mary jane handee graduate soprano reid stock an fished student of the piano and professor mischa eozanski Po who is a member mem berot of the music de department art of the school miss handee accompanied b by y mr stock sang the negro spiritual were you there when they crucified my lord and 1 I walked today whore where jesus walked mr eozanski Po a concert violinist also accompanied by mr stock played the swa swan n and other appropriate music reid played dedication one of his own piano compositions mr vickers spoke on the creation as contained in the book of genesis the concluding number was a vocal solo the lords prayer by miss handee Is monday morning at 9 a m the group presented a second concert at the high school building for the students and the parents who cared to attend mr stock gave another of his piano compositions carnival bumble boogie the little and other numbers miss handee sang love songs and novelty numbers such as romance the worm and negro spirituals mr vickers gave the reading the creation by the negro author james weldon johnson then professor thrilled the students with his wonderful violin selections gavotte written by a french composer and to which george washington danced when he was young 0 solo mio in which he made the violin sound like a human voice the canary which sounded just like the little bird singing and chirping and flitting I 1 about in his cage and many other lively and enjoyable numbers I 1 when he played danny boy as a special request he told the when he was the assistant C chaplain at the bushnell hospital during world war II 11 he went from room to room playing for the injured and seriously injured soldier boys one day the chaplain told him to hurry to room 44 and play for a boy who had been a professional fess ional musician before he entered the service both of his arms and one leg was gone and he had a very short time to live mr hurried to the room the 19 year old boy motioned him over with parents and doctor in attendance and asked him to play danny boy with no time to get an accompanist he began to play and had played only a few bars when the young man passed away mr owns one of the seven stradivarius violins in the united states and he understands s how to use it at one time in recent years he played for people at an open air pavilion in new york city and the notes of his violin violi n carried perfectly the occasion was a wonderful treat for the blanding people and the applause would have gone on indefinitely if the entertainers enal had an 1100 appointment at the monticello high school MR AND MRS FROST BLACK entertained AT THEIR HOME SUNDAY EVENING guests Gues tsat at the home of mr and mrs arost frost black sunday evening after church were president and mrs leland redd and the bishopric of the blanding and grayson wards and their wives also present were mr wallace vickers and his group from the A C college the evening was spent in story telling and laughter and music again professor miss handee and mr stock were very generous in their contributions the social was concluded by a delicious luncheon of fried chicken and all the trimmings served by mrs black and her daughters DEANNE burtenshaw WINS merchandise certificate miss deanne burtenshaw the 11 year old daughter of mr and mrs ralph burtenshaw was happily surprised monday to receive in the mail a merchandise certificate from the bradley badger appliance co in salt lake city recently in the deseret news there was a contest with an easter picture given to be colored miss burtenshaw entered and won the prize the certificate can be used in the purchase of a television set a deep freeze or a range at the bradley badger co K P JACKSON NAVAJO INDIAN DIES AT KAYENTA APRIL ath K P jackson known to a great many of the blanding people died at Ka kayetta kayenta yenta ariz ap april il 4 of cancer of the stomach lie has been ailing for about a year but his condition became much worse about three months ago when he get help from his own medicine men he finally conceited concen ted to go to tiie the indian hospital at shiprock from there lie wa was s sent to ft defiance where he stayed tor for about five weeks when they could do nothing for him they brought him back to his family immediately the family left for bluff moonlight and then kayenta kayetta Ka yenta in search of relief from his suffering ring he died about three weeks later at Ka kayetta kayenta yenta he was buried there the same day and his family came to blanding five days later he is survived by his wife betty jackson two sons frank and ben and two daughters tiny alteen and sarah jackson two grand children and about eight brothers and sisters K P jackson was quite an honorable man for the training he had the standards of cleanliness and devotion in his hogan were an example to people with much more education and training than he had KENDALL YOUNG TO RETURN TO FRANCE pat kendall young spent a few days in blanding with his family this week he had a delay in route from his training camp at ft ord calif to a camp in new jersey from there I 1 he w will i 11 return to france as an interpreter for the army he ar j rived home from a two and a half year mission only i six six months ago monday pat young and his parents mr and mrs bill young went to mack colo to visit a brother harold and his family before he continued his journey to new jersey IWON BLACK TO RECEIVE TRAINING AT JAPAN IN NEAR FUTURE mr and mrs henry black received word from their son iwon at okinawa the other day that he is to be sent to japan in a couple of weeks for 10 weeks training lie ile will study map reading areal photos tor for the use of field radio and telephones etc mr air black is benj enjoying very much his expert experience ence in the service phyllis jones monday they went to payson to stay stav with mr air family until he goes overseas in about 10 days then phyllis will come home to stay with her family mr and mrs duan bishop came from payson with carlos and phyllis schramm thursday to visit with mrs bishops na barents rents mr and mrs frank wright mrs bishop is the former dorothy wright they are living at hinckly at the present time howard hurst is attending school at the brigham young university this quarter he recently returned from a trip to his brother and their wives in california mr and mrs scott hurst at santa anna and mr and mrs leonard hurst at ft ord mrs pauline lisonbee Lison bce had a birthday party for her eight year old son ernest saturday afternoon twenty little boys boy s helped to make the occasion a hilarious success s delicious refreshments fresh ments were served by ernests mother mr and mrs hollis gray who have been living in blanding for the past year had word that their son pete had bee been i n seriously burned on an oil rig at pecan texas gary lyman and his friend miss joan harling of salt lake city spent the weekend visiting at the home of his parents ir air and mrs lynn lyman mr and mrs frank montella took their baby girl to the eye doctor in price monday dr I 1 dorman is treating her for a closed and infected tear duct I 1 guests at the home of of mr M and mrs lorenzo peterson
