card parties given by Mrs H J Newman the dinner at the home of Mrs Russell the high school dance the card party given by Miss Mamie Sharp the reception given in honor of the opening of the Hamilton the guests occupied a box at the theatre 000 The most unique valentine party ever given in the city was the one given by l1r H J Newman last t evening at her home on First street The decorations throughout were suggestive sug-gestive of the season The chandelier in the drawingroom was almost hidden hid-den with a wealth of smilax while from the center was suspended a huge heart made of red carnations and pierced with a golden arrow Extending Extend-ing from the chandelier to the corners of the room were festoons of smilax caught up by hearts and cupids bows After the guests assembled a beautiful cnild dressed as cupid and carrying the scales of love presented the guests with heartshaped tallycards painted in cupids bows and arrows and roses from the garden of love Then came a spirited game of hearts and the awarding of prizes to the successful contestants followed by delicious refreshments 1 re-freshments served in the diningroom on one large and five small tables
