The closing of the Keferee saloon was due to a claim on the part of the Salt Lake City Brewing Company. Mr. D. K. Arthur, a former Salt Lake boy, has been placed in charge of the gymnasium of the Butte Athletic Club. The Home Dramatic Club will give their much-talked-of performance of "Confusion" at Park City Friday evening, the 12th inst. Treseder was brought in this morning for trial, but his case was postponed till next Monday, owing to the absence of Arthur Brown, his attorney. Judge Gilchrist who had occasion to be resent in court this morning, was able to force his voice up to a whisper with much difficulty, as a result of a severe cold. . Young Clark, of Provo, who, with his associate as-sociate in crime, Shurtliff, committed the rape before referred to in these oolumns, has evaded the law by marrying his victim. What has beoome of Superintendent Arnold's enterprise? Why doesn't he make it possible for ladies to reach the street cars on Main street without wading over their shoe tops in mud. Wm. Morgan and Charles Johnson, the Tooele horse-thieves who were captured in Fillmore last month, were brought in from Tooele by Deputy Vaudercook for trial in the Third District Court. The magnifioent doll which was exhibited in Kaybould's window at Christmas time was raffled off last evening, and the lucky number fell to the fortune of Mr. J. B. Wilson, Wil-son, of the Democbat. There was considerable trouble with the electrio lights last night, due, it is claimed, to the inexperience of the new employes. The steam, which is usually kep at 60, climbed up to 85, we are told. When the new City Council take office, it would be a wise thing to put S. P. Teasdel and D. L. Davis on the Committee on Streets and Alleys, especially the alley between the 6tores of S. P. Teasdel and D. L. Davis. Governor Murray yesterday submitted his veto on the bill providing for the compilation compila-tion of the Territorial laws and appropriating appropriat-ing $10,(0 for that purpose. The Legislature Legisla-ture proposes, but the Governor disposes. Several deputies visited Joseph W. MoMur-rin's MoMur-rin's residence again last evening and made another thorough but unsuccessful search for the stalwart young man. His wife was also missing the children being in the charge of her father, Stephen Hunter. George W. Davis informs his friends through the Deseret News that he doesn't care to have anything more to say on the Collin-McMurrin matter. How exceedingly unfortunate for himself that he did not arrive at this conclusion before he wrote or Bpoke a word on the subject. The Deseret News last evening denounced the "mind reader" and the alleged "spiritual "spirit-ual manifestations" advertised to take place at the Theatre. For this Professor Brown ought to feel greatly obliged. He had a crowded house, and could scarcely have had a better advertisement than condemnation from such an Ananias sheet as the News. Mr. John A. Tupper has resigned his position po-sition as Superintendent of the Electrio Light works. It is understood that the action has been brought about by the of-ficionsness of-ficionsness of some aspiring subordinate, who in sundry interferences with the Superintendent's Super-intendent's perogatives was enoouraged by some of the offioers of the company. Thomas Scanlan and Frank Mitchell, two of the four men indicted some time ago for burglarizing Edward Snellgrove's shoe shop, altered their plea yesterday to guilty, and were sentenoed by Judge Zane to three years each jn the penitentiary. They declared the innocence of the other two parties now in the pen, and it is possible that the latter will be liberated after being examined by the court. As the Democbat anticipated, the Herald second trombone denies the McMurrin wife-beating, wife-beating, and also denies that McMurrin returned re-turned to see his wife. It will be remembered that the little Church fiddle also denied that McMurrin struck Collin that MoMurrin was in any way to blame in the Social Hall affray that he was there with any intent in-tent to do Collin an injury. The trouble with a liar is that he generally denies too ; much. |
