Show ON WASHINGTON SQUARE I Tie Athletic Tournament of Satu C co tccess Early in the morning some fifty persons per-sons gathered at the Athletic grounds to witness the Salt Lake and Almy Cricket Clubs play their challenge game The home club won the game without diffi culty The bicycle races in the afternoon were interesting Class one was entered by William Wood and T 0 Angell Wood I won the heats easily and was awarded the gold medal Time 303 Theodore Angell and Joseph Wood were the contestants in the second race Wood won in 312 Jo and was given the second gold medal T H Cartwright F G Brooks and H Folland were the entries in class 3 Brooks won in 318 43 and took the sil ver medal In class 4 Charles E Johnson H Pembroke and Fred Solomon comprised the entries Johnson won and took the silver medal Time 339 The base bal match game between the Reds of Salt Lake and McCooks of Fort Douglas attracted a remarkably large crowd of spectators The game was not characterized by any brilliant playing on either side and was won by the Reds through the baffling pitching of Hebe West with a score of 13 to 3 Another game will shortly follow At Fullers Hill and on Washington Square the Firemens band discoursed music to a large party of visitors In the evening dancing was kept up until midnight mid-night with perfect order Mr Scott of Lindsays Gardens was gratified with the patronage of the many who visited his gardens Saturday and during the evening Harmony prevailed and everyone enjoyed the unlimited grounds pleasures afforded at these newly refitted |
