Show I New Jersey Convicts to be Utilized NEWARK June 3A new system of employing i J em-ploying convicts is to be put into effect in the New Jersey State prison at Trenton in few days It is the first time it has been tried in any institution in the country Under the new system the State will furnish to contractors con-tractors the shops and the labor of the prisoners pris-oners and it will bo paid bv the piece for the articles manufactured The contractors will furnish only the materials About 70D convicts are to be employed Not more than 100 can be put at any one trade Bidders for the prisoners labor have been numerous Last week the Board of Inspectors accepted I the bids of three Philadelphia firms for seventyfive men on brushes sixty men on j I coarse shoes and forty men on ladies shoes i 11 j I Further contracts wore awarded for fifty I men on trousers 100 men on hosiery and j I 800 men on shirts collars and cuffs |
