Utah, February 11, 1937, under the Act of March 3, 1879 FRIDAY, APR. 2, 1987 FIVE CENTS PER COPY, LETTER TO UNITED STATES A PROPHECY BY THE PROPHET JOSEPH SMITH Related to Edward Rushton and Theodore Turley By Dr. J. W. Aird, Provo Ut CONGRESS That in the morey1.two or three may 18:16. The members the Nauvoo Legion was held in Nauvoo. The Prophet Joseph Smith complimented them for the good discipline and evolutions performed; the weather being hot, he called for a glass of water. With the glass of water in his hand he beloved President, Dr. Francis of the Townsend movement are Townsend, and actuated by ap of our times. There is much talk but nothing is ever done about honest policy towards all American Citizens. This Re- it. There is no use to stand idly covery Plan of theirs, bearing the founder’s name, is based by and talk. Action must b2 frankness, mutual monetary benefit, ans social security and betterment for all citizens. if we are to conquer it. If President Roosevelt and It gathers its present membership of} millions from all Congress are in earnest about classes of people, the common working rank, the intellechelping the underprivileged, tually trained, the skillful, the technically trained, intelligent business men, manufacturers as well as the well-to-do people. And for every member in its great organization of clubs it can be safely estimated it has three more sympathisers and supporters. - This is an intimation that the backbone of America— the common folk—are still honestly and intelligently determined to go after a thing when it gets its eyes open to that very thing and that it is correct and will be for their benefit of long duration as in the case of the Townsend movement’s “General Welfare Act” before congress. Townsend Plan’s activities now outdistance all social-economic movements in immediate, simple application for a solution to our problems, in numerical strength, in spiritual coheseviness and intelligent organization for a definite purpose, not to stop before it has reached its goal through proper channel. These things are understood by the members, and they ignore all disturbing propaganda from selfish men to interrupt the progress of the movement. The Townsend Recovery Plan and gréat’clib organization for every Congressional district has come in the nick of time to save us from a fearful social situation: It stands now and will continue to stand as the American socialeconomic welfare. The clubs are HERE TO STAY to see to it that true-spirited public servants and true friends of ALL the peoples’ personal daily welfare shall have the opportunity to enter the House of Representatives and Senate in Washington, D. C Congress of U. §. A. remember this, the glory of America’s God is Intelligence, and that glory is transmitted to His people in America. And you as an authorized Congress of the people, by the people, and for thd people, should not withhold the means of livelihood for the development of that intelligence, unless you do it at the risk of God’s natural and severe reaction to your deeds of “the sin of omission.” Congress, your constituency in the United States requires of your hand action on the Townsend Recovery Plan as it has been presented before you in the “General Welfare Act”, (H. BR. 4199). This Bill is now being backed by petitions to Congress, signed by millions of U.S. A. citizens. The intelligence and the great benefit of this Recovery plan is before you to be examined and acted upon. The light is before you, also in the intelligence transmitted through the and they no doubt are, hereis their chance. If the underprivi leged, able-bodied are. give work they can help themselves. Thus doing away with our relief problem, and in all probability with the P. W. A.and W P. A. to a very large extent. . Ithink itis almost unanim- ously agreed that what we S in being able to put people to work is money inthe hands of the buying and consuming madses. Asit is we are unable to buy commodities and services from each other for lack of a medium ofexchange.. < ** It is likewise unanimously agreed that we cannot have prosperity unless the great masses, our employable citizens are more or less steadily and gainfully employed. Itis also true that it is impossible to have recurrent depressions so long as thegreat massesof able bod- nation’s income and hence ruin the nation, while it should be self-evident the plan intends and only will REVOLVE the national income for the benefit of all citizens and create the greatest industrial and manufacturing boom. Common sense should tell all the Representatives in the House as it already has told over a hundred of your colleasues in Congress, that it is the expedient, feasible, solvent to our national social-economic problems. The Townsend “General Welfare Act” will give IMPETUS to general satis- and should BE PUT OVER IMMEDIATELY in order to save our American civilization from disintegration, under-nourishment, economic slavery, and moral degeneration, including UNemployment. Remember this, Representatives and Senators, that in these troublesome times and of entrenched greed, you and the writing craft in U. S. A. are nourishing false philosophies among the people if you do NOT use your intelligence to institute more equal and PROPORTIONATE distribu- tion of what God has very abundantly provided -for us. should certainly not be deprived of the opportunity of doing so. issimple. — THE and in Further it has been verified that two hundred thousand We also have two trained nurses are on relief in America. It was while the two were attracted to them and out, that my attention hearing the man speaking was in a loud tone of voice, I went toward them, the man finally leaving. There were then present, the Prophet Joseph Smith, Theo- dore Turley, and myself. The Prophet began talking to us of the mobbings and drivings, the persecutions we as a _ people had endured. “But, saiid he, we will have worse things for with Congress plan, Chelan, to old said openly is concern spirit future Td will speak in Parables like unto John, the Revelator. You will see the Constitution of the United States almost destroyed; it will hang with a thread, and that thread as fine as the finest silk fiber.” At this point the Prophet’s countenance became sad, as he said, “I love the Constitution; it was made by the inspiration of God, and it will be preserved and saved by the efforts of the White Horse and the Red Horse who will combine in its defense.” “The White Horse will raise an ensign on the tops of the mountains of Peace and Safety where all nations shall flee unto, for safety. The Protestant religions do not know how much they are indebted to Henry the 8th for throwing off the Pope’s bull and establishing the Protestant faith.
