Shortage of Hogs. In some of the principal hog raising districts, the corn crop was a partial failure; the farmers were frieghtened and sold their hogs, and the packing houses report receiving all kinds of hogs for slaughter, even sows with pig. We are alarmed when eleven of the principal markets of the United States show a decrease in hog receipts since the first of January, 1917, by more than TWO MILLION. Europe, to save feed, slaughtered its hogs by the millions and today the estimates show a shoi t age of THIRTY MILLIONS or more. A Safe Investment anil a Patriotic Duty.
