Gentlemen i Allow me to thank you for jour remarks following my grnmb' ling communication ; they were just the thing, or a one would say, they were what a frame is to a fine picture, bring ing out the tender points and colors! Now I am such an obstinate chap, "endowed with the bump of as professor Kobert W , a 8, that I feel an itching desire to talk a little mora on the subject. You a'i who filled the ditch! I may ask, was any ditch made? There was once part of one, ranging from Mr. Pool's Butcher Shop to the corner of the Bank, but suppose the ditch was well made lyeari ago, whose duty is it to see that aid ditch be kept clean and open. But not open or not open, that would help those nasty pools, for the middle of the street is below tne level or the ditch. Since the last rain, pretty near a month ago, a pool of stagnating water bus existed opposite Mr. Kiesel's Store ; aid pool measured, yesterday, eight inches in depth in the centre. A wag told me that formerly said pool was almost bottomless, but since a load of hay got sunk in it by accident, now and then on can perceive the appearance of a I may suggest the sinking of bottom. another load ; I suppose you think that because I talk so much about those eter-'na- l pools I must have a great dread for mire and mud. So I have, so has every man. I do not feel to blame the City Fathers and accuse them of wilfull neglect, but merely draw their attention to the fact that unless the evil is remedied, they and we shall be compelled to go to Ineexpense of purchasing a pair of high toga boots to wade tnrougu me mire I feel to quit talking on such a nasty subject but it seems that it is in every Body a mind and meuto. Yours Truly, fI V ." ' , 0. N. UlSBNBACH. We were not aware before that every iiind and mouth were filled with "such a nasty subject." From what we have leard and seen on Main St. whence ; ur correspondent derives his ideas on this matter we were under the impression (hat thtf Franco Prussian war occu pied the one, and the juice of ripe wa pears and peaches filled the ether, sometimes to overflowing; and this brings us to the ditch again. We repeat it was made for the special con venience of the Main St. merchants, and they have filled it up with waste build The ing material and other rubbish. point we touched on wag not, whoso duty la it to see that the work of opening the ditch is done, but, who ought to do it? Men of business and enterprise uglit not to want anybody to punch tlit ui up to their duty. What docs our friend 0. U. want the high g toga boots fort lie says he has a dread of mud., But there is only one spot on Main St where they would be f service. He seems well acquainted with the depths of this "nasty subject;" we hope h does not intend to employ lis spare time and stoga boots by going round measuring puddles. Our correspondent gives the City Fathers a dig In the ribs, but doesn't want to hurt them, Oh, no. He doesn't want to a- ' (cnsa ;ttem of i "wilful negket," bat then how about that hole in the road! Well, t we leave the question for O. V. and the City Fathers to settle And in regard to the "nasty subject," we think ' it had now better be sent to keep company with that load of hay. Ed. Snubbed. The utmost consternrtion was created in San Francisco, last Friday evening, by the discovery of an outrage upon a a girl thirteen years of age, Arrah Moon-eof Brooklyn, Oakland.
