Mr. Honda, private secretary to Baron Komura, wen; to the apartments of the Russian mission where he was received in the reception room by Mr. Shipoff, Mr. Deplanchon, Mr. Futcheff and Dr. Berg. Mr. Honda said the object of bis visit was to discuss the best program for the exchange of the cards by the members of the two missions. The ehort conversation which followed waa very cordial and it waa decided that the cards should either be left at the office or that a secretary from each side should convey them in the respective departments and there be formally received. With each day the members of the two missions are fraternising more easily and it is no longer a subject for comment when a Russian and a Japanese are aeen talking together. Baron Komura and Mr. Witte reiterated to ihlrd Assistant Secretary Peirce, shortly before leaving for the yard today, a request that every one be excluded from the yard throughout the time the envoys are meeting. Even the member of each mission to gain entrance will be required to show passes signed by their chief and couniersignt-- by the commandant of the yard, Had it not been for tbe fact that automobiles were in waiting for them. Baron Komura and Mr. Takahira would have gone by lavnch to tbe navy yard. Baron Komura asked Mr. Peirce at the hotel about going that way and ordera were at once aent for a launch to be brought to the landing. Baron Komura, however, seeing his automobile waiting, insisted on going in the way that had been arranged. Before leaving his hotel thia morning, one of the members of the Russian mission, in a conversation with a correspondent of the Associated Presa, said: "I wish you would reiterate on behalf of ourselves how grateful we are for the courtesies extended to ui aboard tbe Mayflower by Captain Wilson and his officers. Our every wants were supplied, In fact anticipated, and the trip on the Mayflower waa enjoyed even by those who were not good sailors. The Japanese have been profuse in the expressions of gratification for tha hospitality rendered them aboard the Dolphin by Captain Gibbons. In my opinion, tha statements sent broadcast over tbe country by newspaper shipments of Goldfield ore from that point weekly, are working a great hardship upon this camp, said A. H. Mayne, one of those who went from this city to gild hi neat in tbe mines of tha Nevada gold camp, to a Sun reporter. "Naturally enough, the writer play np the Tonopah shipments in their reports to their respective newspaper," continued Mr. Mayne. "Almost every week I notice in the newspapers that the Goldfield district la accredited with less than 100 ton weekly. In writing these reports the newspaper men fail to mention that the shipments of Goldfield ora from Tonopah are an Insignificant portion of tbe entire weekly production. Thera is never any reference to the amount of ora that is treated at the various sampling and stamp mills of the Goldfield district. In not taking the trouble to ascertain the entire production of gold ore In the Goldfield district, tha newspaper writers do thia camp a great injustice in announcing weekly the shipments of local ora via tha Tonopah railroad. If the shipments of local ore from Tonopah and tbe amount of ore treated at tha local plants were added together It would lie found that Goldfield is making aa good, if not a better showing, than any camp of its age that has ever been discovered. Take for instance, the shipments of ore from the Sandstorm property to tbe Columbia: samIn recent mouths these shippler. ments have become almost continual, aa have been those from oUier properties to the various other milling plants. In justice to the Goldfield district, I say tbit the newspaper men, in making weekly shipment reports, should use care In mentioning the fact that such reports do not Include the great amount of ore treated weekly at the plants of the Goldfield district. They should also consider that there Is an unlimited amount of rock that Is being stored up for shipment by rail upon the completion of tbe railroad to this camp. By waiting until the construction of the railroad to Goldfield, the mine operators will save a great amount of money that It la now necessary to expend in having ore freighted to Tonopah, the nearest rail- nodrrg FOR MAYNE SPEAKS OUT.
