Greatest success is being achieved where neighbors cooperate to control the pests and secure longer freedom from their annoyance. To control earwigs successfully, Dr. George F. Knowlton, USU Extension entomologist suggests: Apply chlordane, diel-dri- n of hepachlor as 5 percent dust or granules about the home yard areas where the earwigs travel and feed at night, or scatter earwig bait in such areas in the evenings. To allow earwigs full contact with the insecticides in order that control may be most successful, water lawns and flowers some hours before treating for earwigs, then don't water again for a night or two . Caution: Avoid dusting or spraying these insecticides on parts of plants that are to he eaten. Applied with care, food contamination can be avoided and successful pest control obtained, the entomologist said.
