Show THE HERALD-JOURNA- LOGAN, UTAH, L, Genealogical and Temple News OUR FIRST BIRTHDAY Testaments and Wills Have Value (Editorial) It is a year tomorrow since the first appearance of Genealogical and Temple News. It was rather a bold No one had conducted an independent experiment. genealogical section in a western newspain-- before so far as we knew. There was some doubt as to whether we could get enough material to fill two columns each week. We soon found that others were willing to help, and that two columns was not nearly enough space. The results have been beyond all our expectations. One of the projects supported from the beginning was the building of a genealogical section in the public library. As we remember it, the genealogical section at that time consisted of one book and a few unbound copies of genealogical magazines. Now we have several hundred hooks valued at several thousand dollars. A year ago every once in a while some one strolled into the library and asked to see that book on genealogy. Miss Wright the librarian reported in a recent issue of this paper that this section in the library is now attracting people from distant cities and that about two hundred visit this section each week. When the library board found that somebody cared, they were willing to pay for the Boston Transcript and subscribe for membership in the Ameiiean Institute of Genealogy and in the New England Genealogical and Historical Society. Each of these memberships entitles our library to the use of a large circulating genealogical library. This seivice has been advertised in this department and many have profited by it. When books have been received from either of these libraries we have reviewed them in this department and sometimes as many as fifty persons have called to examine a single r wrk evening of cut h llcie EVENING Is n"vv- - lor l Imve siois uinii' (tom Yoik-- I For ciie ncilhs we; shoo, E.'y m Uh l.io.iry ,i v t of 1ihc bill vt volume' ot th. o.iti.sh rigi'toi' fin'd Yuk 'll'i. nc 'K. theie vicri pi. lied in tne Pot u v fue volumes' of tile Thou-b- '' Soi tetv Pubhio-- j A iiin'h" o; oi her volumes' tiotiv so! i, ,oe ivpoiloil soon ,! tin.
