'' Sketch of Jesse Burgln. - Josso Burgln was tho son ot Paul M Burgln and Mary Duty, born Fobruary 11, 1847, in Snxalby, Lincolnshire, England. Ills early life was spont working on tho farms with but llttlo or no opportunity for going-to going-to school, but his later years in England woro spent In tho coal pits. Of this number only thrco aro now living, Mary Ann Frogott ot England, Hose Carr ot Lohl and Nolllo Kay of Garland. In 1877 his wlto Joined tho Church ot Jesus Christ of Lattorday Saints, being baptlzod by Patriarch Warron B. Smith of Amorlcan Fork, and for many years Brother Burgln's homo was tho headquurtors for tho Mormon eldors laboring In tills vicinity. Brother Burgln being ot a very backward back-ward and retiring disposition did not got up courngo to Join tho Church tor fourteen years aftor his wlfo. Ho was baptlzod in April, 1891, by Dlshop Wheatloy ot Honoyvillo, Doxoldor County, Utah. In common with all othor saints who Join tho church out in the world tho Durgln family woro very desirious to emigrating to Utah but how to get tho moans to pay their passage to "Zlon" was a very sorlouB proposition. Dut finally their son Charles, who died hero in Lehl twenty ono years ago leaving a wlfo and family, bocamo bo-camo old enough to work and earn a llttlo which helped to lncrcaso tho small incomo of tho family, and unbeknown unbe-known to her husband, Sister Burgln laid away a certain amount of hor son's wages each week and when Brother Burgln was finally porsuadod to omlgrato which was not an easy matter, sho had almost enough monoy savod for tho purpose. In 1892 their son Charles and daughtor Roso camo to Utah and tho following year Brothor and Sister Burgln, tholr daughtor Nellie and grand daughtor Ellon camo. Upon their arrival In Utah tho tho family settled In Lehl whero thoy havo sinco rosldcd. By Industry and hard work thoy liaYo manugod to maintain thomsolvos and also to got a comfortable llttlo homo which thoy havo enjoyod very greatly and appreciated. ap-preciated. Brother Burgln has worked work-ed for his neighbors and tho farmers In this community bolng ot a very congenial and willing disposition. Ho worked for Josso Smith for nineteen years. Brothor Durgln and family havo boen- faithful members of Uio Church having boen to tho templo and done tho work for thomsolvos and somo of tholr kindred. At tho tlmo of his donth ho hold tho olllco of High Priest. Brothor Durgln has always been a hard worker and industrious provider for his family, besides his own children child-ren ho has raised two ot his grand daughters. Ho was kind mid patient In his disposition, a loving father, a devoted husband, a good neighbor and a true friend. Ho depaitcd this llfo July 3, 1021. Agod 74 years, 4 months and 21 days. He la survived by his wife, three daughters, nlnotoon grand children and ton great grand chlldron. |
