Show j OBITUARY. j Conkling. Mrs. Agatha I. Conkling. wife of J. C. Conkling. passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon at the family homu, 37 South Eighth street. She was a patient sufferer of the dreaded disease, rheumatism, for aboui two years and a half. She had seemec better for some time, but for a clay or two had been ailing with a slight attack. When the end came, the shock to the family was intense. Tne family physician. Dr. William Simpson, Simp-son, was in attendance and did all in his power, but to no avail. Rev. Father Francis Mallon of St. Patrick s church was at the bedside wnen she-passed she-passed away. Mrs. Conkling was a woman of beautiful character and a devout and sincere Christian. She made friends lowly, but she made them steadfastly. Her death is a sad blow to her husband hus-band and . devoted children. Benjamin H. Conkling and the Misses Agatha and Naomi Conkling. all of whom are residents of this city. She was 70 years and 5 months of age. The funeral will be on Saturday morning from St. Patrick's church or which the deceased was a prominent member. San Jose Mercury, Jan. 1. Stevenson. After a lingering illness, Charles Henry Stevenson died at an early hour Thursday morning in his apartments in the Security Trust building from bronchitis. bron-chitis. For ten years he has been a sufferer from the complaint, and for the past two years he was an invalid. Mrs. Charles C. Stevsnson, widow of the deceased, is society editor of the Republican. Since the family removed to this city ten years ago she has been called upon to part with a daughter, a son and, lastly, her husband. The daughter, Mrs. John Yan Brunt, a bride of a few months, died in 1903, and three years later occurred the death of the sont Paul West Stevenson, aged 21. The former home of the family was in Michigan Mich-igan City, Ind., and the couple married there in 1880. Mr. Stevenson was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church, : and the funeral will be held there at a date yet to be announced. f |
