Barbara By Last year, I decided secretly to enter the field of doping football games, so I set up a rating system, expecting no better than a 50 per cent . average the first season. Much to my surprise, I finished with nearly a 75 per cent average. My top ten last year looked like this: Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, Southern Methodist, Southern California, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and North Carolina. Now comes the great task that of readjusting the ratings to compensate for graduation, etc. Finally after reading everything I could lay my hands on during the last month, I have come up with my choice for this year's top ten and some predictions for the September 18 i ball games. The Mid-Welooks like the power section again this year. Notre Dame and Michigan again rate the two top spots. Close behind them come Minnesota and Missouri, with Gophers from Minneapolis probably Rose Bowl bound come New Year's. Missouri should supplant Kansas and Oklahoma as Big Seven champs. t. So much for the Back East, it looks like Penn State and Army. The only possible stumbling block I can see on the Army's schedule would be Penn and ditto Penn State. In other words, Penn holds the key to the situation in the East. Down South our choices are perenially strong Georgie Tech and North Carolina with Cho Choo Justice. Texas spilled Justice & Co. in their opener last year and may do it again come September 25th. But aside from that no one figures to do it. The Engineers appear to be bowl bound again. That leaves just two spots and both of necessity go to the Southwest. Down in the wide-ope- n spaces it looks like defending champions Southern Methodist (with the great Doak Walker) will repeat, but pressing them closely will be Texas Christian's Horned Frogs. Well, that's ten and I know what you're going to say now how about the Coast? After the class of the Coast absorbed those two whippings from Michigan and Notre Dame last fall, you should ask! I like Cal for the Coast . title but they're not in the top ten yet for st . Local Outlook that off my chest, let's look at the local problem on Now, with " Coach Bill Chandler, while not optimistic, is not pessimistic either. He's working the lads hard very hard for that September 25th opener. That's just a week from tomorrow, and while the lads have come a long way in the past couple of weeks, they still have a long 'the grid. . way to go. One thing that can be classified as certain is that no one has a the bag." True, some of the lads out there every starting job "in evening have a wide edge in experience, but as Captain Chandler puts it, "You can't beat the spirit these guys are showing, and with that kinda fight and scrap, no one. has any definite claim on any spot." The Captain continued, "I'm not expecting an unbeaten club, but with the spirit the fellows are showing, every opponent we meet will know they've been in a ball game for 60 full minutes." Thank you, Coach Chandler! This column, for one, would like to see a big turnout from Hill for that September 25th opener. There will be posters out on "When, Where, and Who" in advance. Keep an eye open for them and get behind this squad huh? S The recommendations nf council will be passed on to th! :ate jxoaa commission fnr . . sideration. The wife was asked to refund nearly $1100 because under Utah law a divorce is not final until six months after the signed decree is filed in the office of the county clerk. During the time between the filing of the divorce decree and the time that the divorce becomes final as stipulated by the individual state in which the divorce was obtained, the parties are not free to remarry no matter where it is performed.
