The problem of the latter division of the fuel producing world dates back to the time of the World War, one of their greatest market losses, the middle west, having been experienced at that time. And ever since that time that portion of the fuel industry has been fighting an uphill battle. " However, despite the lean years the industry has experienced the "hard'' coal producers have determined that they will not be downed, that there is pJenty of fight in them still and that they have resolved they will come out on top. It is that determination to "carry on" the fight coupled with sensible practices in keeping up with advancement of other lines of industry which promises to bring anthracite back into the fold of profitable production and marketing . Among other "streamlining" activities the anthracite interests have established a laboratory in the Pennsylvania hard coal field in which they have a steadily engaged force of about twenty engineers and assistants who are experimenting along various lines to bring out unknown shortcuts which will place the product of their employers on a superior basis to other fuels which have displaced the product of the Pennsylvania mines. It is claimed that there are 40,000.000 persons residing in the area whose homes should be heated with anthracite, that some 5,000,000 homes in that section are fire-fuelby that product It is the purpose of the hard coal interests to use that five million homes as a basis of establishment of a consuming market of greater proportion for their product. That is where their research and merchandising institute, called Anthracite Industries, Inc., probattle. It is estimated that seventy per cent of poses to wage its come-bac- k the hard coal industry is contributing $1,000,000 a year to maintain its experimental laboratories in which the engineers are engaged. Development of the stoker to its present high ranking status has been a main artery in the lifeblood stream comeback system of anthracite, which can prove as favorable to the bituminous industry if it k, ready to take advantage of the opportunity offered. For example, the anthracite laboratory has placed its seal of approval on fourteen different stokers, a step taken only after thorough testing by the hard coal experimenting en- F Of Helper State Bank All Kooms are Completely Kenovated And Redecorated Before Renting an Apartment See Mrs. Louise Jensen 140 South Main Street - - - Helper Ft O 31 MIKE PAGANO Phone 178-- Helper W and the law. ..the. greatest of "6outh Sea adventure dramas by Nordhoff.and Hall, authors of "Mutiny on the Bounty." with Dar.tby LAMOUtOn HAtl Tht. Ihe instruction carries the message of the value of anthracite as compared with other fuels, the "students' being informed, of course, on how they may present the picture of their product as of superior quality to the consumer. All of the latest types of furnace and other fuel consumers are explained and their value as favoring coal as the choice heating material come in for thorough coverage.
