Show Thursday, February 1, 2007 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Gunnison wrestlers travel to Enterprise by KELLY SATTERFIELD On January 26th and 27th the Bulldog wrestlers ventured to Enterprise for a huge tournament. There was some new competition there for the Dogs with teams from Nevada and St. George in attendance. Also attending were Richfield, South Sevier, Milford, Parawon, Beaver, American Leadership Academy, and Kanab. This proved to be quite a positive experience for Gunnison as the boys all won at least one match. Coach Jay Yardley was a trooper and stayed the night in the Enterprise gym with his boys and several other teams, sleeping on the mat. That could not have been comfortable! At 103 lbs. We missed watching Allen Boore and Mason Mackay wrestle as they were both still out with injuries, but they should both be ready for the Region Tournament which is starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 2nd and 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Sevier Valley Events Center in Richfield. They all have a good chance to make it to State and they need your support! As no surprise to county residents, Sanpete County ranks first in the production of turkeys and sheep in the state. The county also ranks fifth for the number of dairy cows and the total revenue from the agricultural production ranks our county fourth in Utah. According to Utah State University Extension, the value of livestock and crops produced in Sanpete County is close to 100 million dollars. Farmers and ranchers in Sanpete County do their part in making America’s food the most affordable in the world. This is an amazing feat considering the growing season in Sanpete County is only four months and average annual precipitation is only 10.45 inches. Americans on average spend just under 10 percent of their disposal personal income for food. Applying that statistic to the calendar year means the average household will have earned enough disposable income—the portion of income available for spending or saving—to pay for its annual food supply in about 36 days, according to the Utah Farm Bureau. Not only is America’s food supply the world’s most affordable, but it’s also the safest. In recognition of this, Sanpete County Farm Bureau invites all county residents to join in celebrating February 4-10, 2007, as Food Check-out Week. The first two people to correctly decipher the message below and call the answer in to the Gazette at 528-5178, will win a $25 gift card to Gunnison Market.
