A recent enterprise of no small import im-port to the commercial interests of this section is that of the Gunnison Valley Salt company, whose inexhaustible inex-haustible salt mines are looated closo to Axtell on the southeast. The company's com-pany's venture starts out, and well it may, with invincible confidence of success. The immense salt deposit owned and cow being operated by this company com-pany covers an area of some 160 acres, which after uncovering reveals a face ' of from seventy to one hundred feot of solid salt, at; above ground level. From the fact that in Utah alone more than a million tons of coarse un refined salt is sold aunually there is every reason to wanant this undertaking, under-taking, since its product is always of better quality and free from injurious minerals found in the unrefined lake salt. Already orders for it in carload lots are pouring in atid the company will be in shape soon, judging from preparations to bo seen at the works, to handle its business on a large scale. A large crushing plant will be installed with the intention tosupply-the tosupply-the trade with crushed or fine salt for stock feeding or other purposes. While there is easy team hauling to the D. & R. G. Ry. one and a quarter miles distant it is intended to connect the mines by car system later on. The mines were formerly a source of supply, when teaming was in vogue, for milling purposes atPioche, Nev. Since 1902 they have been controlled con-trolled by the "Salt Trust" company which did little or nothing to develop the property. That lease has expired and the ownership taken over entirely by the Gunnison Valley Salt company, com-pany, which has incorporated with an increased capital of $100,000. The company maintains an office in this city with W. H. Gribbie in charge as general manager. A general office has also been opened at Salt Lake City, room 433 D. F. Walker build-: build-: ing, iu charge of the president, I. N. Parker, The company is so assured of sue; cess that no pains or espouse is being spared in placing its business to pub-' pub-' lie notioe or installing an equipment with which to meet au extensive trade .
