Show SSwW- 19s CHATTER.'; The progress of every community depends upon public spirited, unselfish leadership. Ralph Waldo Emerson. I have followed with great interest the progress of the Magna Water Company, a unique experiment of a town-ownutility in an unincorporated town, and believe it is THE factor which accounts for the growth of our town, for without water, no progress ed was possible. Knowing the whole picture from the inside out, I have watched several individuals and their traits of truculence and belligerency against the project. They have assailed and con demned; attacked and denounced. Even when they tried public insults, instead of replying in kind, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees completely ignored their cheap and unfounded charges. Unquestionably . his refusal to blast back at any one of these men, was the most effective thing he possibly could have done, for it wdrt .a. long way to nullify the ' accusations. Certainly, it has been made dear that this man is not a quarrelsome type nor one easily provoked to wrath. He controls his temper, does not and is wholly go off free from personal grudges and animosity. This does not mean, of course, that he is incapable of anger or resentment He can rot be pushed around, bullied or bamhalf-cock- boozled. -- Read It in The "The Complete Home Newspaper" Times or Leader Number 28 Garfield, Utah, Friday, January 2, 1953 Year thirty-sixt- h Magna Enjoying New, Better Water, Larger Force Local Area THRESHOLD OF THE FUTURE May the bells, horns and whistles that clamor in that hairbreadth of time dividing in your the New Year from the old, heart with happiness and hope throughout all of 1953. July 10. 1951, marked a red letter day in the history of Magna, for at that time, the Pleasant Gueen Water Company sold its distribution system and business to the people of Magna, represented by the Magna Water Company, an improvement district. a large sum, about Quite $130,000, was paid to P. Recommendations Listed There are several points that as chairman and as a solid booster of this worthwhile project I should like to submit to Magna people for the further improvement of water delivery and service here: he installation of meters in all businesses and homes. 2nd-- A concerted drive to obtain the loans of $150 from every possible homeowner in Magna and east Magna area. 3rd-T- he addition of a penalty fee of $1.00 per month for homes who refuse to cooperate with the d vast majority of citizens and not give a $150 loan. 4thThe participation of more homeowners in the operation of the system by attending more of the meetings and becoming familiar with problems confronting the trustees. By way of clarification, meters will cost about $36.00 for the complete fittings necessary to install and place in operation. A fee for labor must be added to this amount. However, the homeowner will then pay for the water actually used, a much fairer method of payment, and furthermore, a considerable saving should be realized through savings in sprinkling bills. Concerning the loans to the Water Company, there are only 291 residents from 7200 West into Magna who have not undertaken their share of this program. Some cannot be expected to help, being widows, indigent and retired residents.
