This week has been a busy week for the students of Carbon. They have been, preparing for their two hour exams. Some will pass and some wont. We SURELY HOPE that the East Carbon students will make a good showing. Every day of the week that the teachers of East Carbon Junior High are on hall duty they pray for warm weather so they can send the children OUTSIDE. This is one way that we can find out which of the teachers prayers are answered (BE ON THE LOOKOUT EVERYONE). 4 !' , K " r ? rnv1-- ' f rt - ;f :r ; 1) jtrtwi n I r I 7 EAST CARBON JUNIOR IQGH EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS CARRY ON Friday night the Seventh and WITH VOCAL ORGANIZATION UNDERTAKEN AS 7TH GRADERS 2D A unique vocal organization at East Carbon junior high achool is the eighth grade girls chorus. This chorus is unique because the same girls now comprise its membership as were in it when it was the seventh grade girls chorus last year. Its entire membership has remained intact and the experience these girls have acquired together as a group is making itself known more and more with each performance. Last year these girls learned to sing two-pa-rt songs and this year they have been specializing in XX SENATOR MELICH By The Book Cliff Club started out this year with some very good programs and each one seems to add more interest. The program Tuesday night, November 11 was under the direction of Violet Thompson. The room was beautifully decorated in the patriotic colors 6f, red,' white and blue and included a large flag'.' Hie distinguished ' guests for the evening were: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Corbin, Mrs. Corbin is the district president and she gave a short address on friendship; Senator and Mrs. Melich and Master Dennis Mahan, all from Moab. The program consisted of The Pledge to the Flag, group singing of The Star Spangled Banner; a very talented reading by Master Dennis Mahan; Billy Kissell played Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and In My Adobe Hacienda on his accordion; Mrs. Help-!gr- by Dr. Voss, Judge Reva Beck Bosone, Salt Lake City judge, will address a News Price on November 22 81,7130 p. m. in the civic auditorium, her subject being education on alcoholism as she has seen it from her position on a Salt Lake City bench for the past 11 years. The SEVENTH and EIGHTH were the WINNERS of the Magazine Contest. When the contest was started it was said that the losers would give the winners a party or dance. The contest ended so "close with the total of for the Seventh and $307.90 $299 30 for the Eighth .that it was decided that the Ninth and Tenth grades would give the Seventh a dance and treat. The Eighth would be honored at the dance. The Ninth and Tenth grade students had to pay their admission to the dance regardless of whether they came or not because they sponsored the dance. Frank V. nicks Mr Hicks has been a resident of Dragerton since 1942. He came to Dragerton from Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he was superintendent of the Union Pacific Coal Company. He is qualified for- - this job, having served on the Board of Education in Wyoming for 13 years. Mr. Hicks stated in announcing his candidacy he felt that the work that the Board of Educa- -' tion can do is of the greatest importance, In a new eommunity such as Dragerton there is a great responsibility for getting the school system established properly. Seventeen months have elapsed since June 18, 1946, when the acquisition by U. S. Steel of the Geneva facilities from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation was This preject, as consummated. you know, was designed and built by U. S. Steel Corporation without fee or other compensation for the' Government solely as a war production facility. Yet, we believe that the short peacetime operation to date, under U. S. The reason I call them that is because everynight when school ends we become bewildered because there are so many buses. The school, In cooperation with Marshal Bob Brush, sold the- idea to the children of the town, of hav ing a sensible observation of Hal - loween. Children of all ages were Invited to be at the school gym at 7:30 p. m.'They came In large numbe'rs, costumed and eager foi a good time. There were games, . a fish pond, dancing and refresh- ments with plenty of noise-makigadgets. - All had' a good time under the supervision of teachers until 11 p, m. All children went home - happy but tired. From observation and from reports no damage was done about the town. No soaping of windows was found on the school building or about town, so far as we know. We think it is the best observation of Halloween in our memory.
