Show v NO CHEAPER I 1 COAL RATES RAT E S the agitation throughout the a alo ate by the different diffee nt commercial cluba clubs and traffic Beu reana reans is causing many fact concerning the f eight rates noa charged by the railroads to bo be re heaed it is claimed by the tracie managers ma of the organization that the people cf this state are charged too much for their coal and the railroads are given the blame the following communication wae was received by the commercial club traffic berreau of salt lake commercial club traffic bureau gentlemen again referring to your letter of rob 1 wherein you request a rate of 80 cents per net ton cn n slack and nd per net ton on all other kinds of coal carloads from mines on the denver rio brande railroad in utah to utah common points I 1 beg to 1 ad vise that these rates would not compensate us for the service indol ed and I 1 do not believe that upon serious reflection you will urge their establish nent ment you are acquainted with the fact hat late in the year 1903 our company reduced Us its coal rates 25 26 cents per ton but you may not know that in 1907 another reduction of 25 cents per to ton wa made to provo and intermediate points still further within the last lait sixty days a reduction has been made of 5 cents per ton from the mines at helper and 16 15 cents per ton from price and sunny side to utah common points hence you will see that some very substantial concessions have arleacy been made which to the best of my knor ledge have been filly f illy appreciated by all concerned regretting that your request is one that our company cannot comply with I 1 remain with kind regards respectfully yours S V DERRAH assistant general freight agent |
