the week but was not thought to be dangerously ill ill at any time not ven even up lip to within a few bours of her death at noon she sat up and talked with those present apparently unconcerned about her condition her death therefore came as a surprise and a shock to her dear ones and to her friends annie jackson wixom was the daughter of george and louisa jackson and was born oct 10 1846 in shird ington Gloucester shire england at the age of ten years she became a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints and in the tall fall of came to the united states zile she came across the plains that same year walking most ot of the way on oct 13 3 she became the he wife of justin C wixom the ceremony being performed in the endowment house in salt lake city president AV wilford Ilford woodruff officiating in nov they moved to brigham city which lias has been their place of residence since immediately upon her arrival here she became a member of the tabernacle choir under the leadership ot of robert L fishburn which position she has held faithfully performing the duties thereof until her nation about one year ago she was for forty years a member of that organization during her lifetime she was very active in church work she has been in the order named president of the 2nd and ward primary association and a sunday school worker secretary of the stake board of the relief society a position she occupied for 17 years up to the time of her death she was also one of the re bacety lac ety jr teachers ach jn li jie hex ward d her acif actie efty ity was vas not confined to church C hu c work altogether but she was secretary of the womans comans suffrage association when that organization existed and she served brigham city as treasurer from to 1901 sister wixom was a woman or of a self sacrificing character a sunny disposition was ras loved and esteemed by all her acquaintances it appears that about 13 15 years ago she suffered a paralytic stroke arid and 10 years ago a second attack which left her in a state of impaired health so while her ter death was not expected at this time lime yet her ter family knew that she was not possessed of great vitality she was the mother of 0 seven children four of them preceding her to the spirit irit world her living children are louie W A peck residing at cove oregon J arthur wixom of 0 garland and S clarence wixom of this city funeral services were held tuesday at 1 1 p in in tile the 2nd and ward meeting house bishops counselor peter knudson taking charge the singing was furnished by the ward choir under 4 the direction of andrew funk singing sister thou wast mild and lovely prayer by elder james olsen singing when first the glorious light of truth peter Ri knudson ludson excused bishop blackburn saing that is was impossible tor for him to be present before closing he that he had lived neighbor to sister wixom for twenty years and during that time he had bad never known of any unpleasantness being caused by her appreciated her as a neighbor peter sorensen ward teacher in the district bore a convincing testimony to her faithfulness to the gospel said that on a recent visit to her home she had told him and ills lu 3 companion that there was not a soul on earth towards whom she had any ill feeling N 3 valentine spoke ot of his acquaintance with the deceased and endorsed the good things that had been said of her by the previous speakers robert L fishburn had known sister wixom for 41 years and lie he related some ot of her early history in this city she was a member ul aber of the tha choir while he be was director and had ari 1 a always 1 s been able and faithful ile ho declared 1 e ad ed that thai both she andinor andI and mr NIr wixom 0 m h had always been most excellent neighbors the families had visited back and forth frequently S N lee spoke of sister faithfulness as a choir member during ills his leadership he regarded her its as a very valuable member of the organization always pleasant prompt and faithful when she resigned a year ago she sent a letter a very fine letter which the speaker felt was entitled t to ito be preserved pie served and lie he kept it J F the board and among other things she said she sh lias has lone done that which not many of us its here hae ha e had to do she left her ter home and all that she had and camo came all this his ions iong way tor for the sake of her faith charlotte boden remembered sister wixom best through her work in ill the ward organizations she had worked as long as her health would permit she said that when a report was made of a years meeting in it the relief society only two names appeared that had attended every meeting held during the bear car and one of them was sister wixom president oleen N stohl city was divided into wards thus becoming the first president of that association cia tion this was in 1878 and she held the position until about the year 5 in the early part 1 art of she was made secretary to the staka stake board a position which she had filled with honor up to the time ot of her ter death singing shall we meet beyond the river benediction by bishop J B mcmaster the room was nicely decorated with vines and evergreens ever greens and the casket a very fine one indeed was covered with beautiful lowers flowers notwithstanding the scarcity of flowers at this time of the year the attendance was small for two reasons word could not be received from the daughter mrs airs peck until late monday night and as she was I 1 unable to come it was decided to rid huld the services tuesday instead of thursday as at first thought and in fit the ward hall instead of the tabernacle as woid had it at first gone out then at this season odthe year people ire are so busy preparing tor for christmas eye eve arid and the affairs of christmas lay day that few could get away from home the services however were splendid tile the body was interred in the family lot in the cemetery and the grave dedicated by J prank frank merrell the news joins heartily with the many friends of the family in extending sympathy to the bereaved children and we trust that they will be reconciled and consoled |
