Morgan, director of highways, has announced the opening of bids for new road construction in San Juan county. The project is located on State Route No. 261. This is the road that commences near Mexican Hat and proceeds through the Natural Bridges national monument to join Route No. 95 to Hite. Construction will consist of a bituminous surfaced roadway, commencing at the junction with Route No. 47 near Mexican Hat, and then stretching approximately seven miles in a northerly direction. The project is to be completed in 75 working days. The apparent lowest bidder on the project was Nelson Brothers Construction company, with a bid of $143,432. The firm is from Salt Lake City.
