Show AUGUST 9, 1996 Beaver County Monitor 14th Annual George Marshall Stakes August 3, 1996 Owners Wayne Houston and Lynn Orton At the finish line. Whitney — Anderson was quite a crowd pleaser with her clogging exhibition. She danced to “Stupid Cupid”, “Mickey in » Motion” and “It’s in: his kiss. Whitney is the daughter of Ryan and Melissa Anderson. Slew Goldie, owned by Ross, Chris and Wade Marshall, and trained by Wade and Val Marshall crossed the 5 furlong finish line in 1.62, The race was sponsored by Indian Creek Vet Clinic and Laidlaw Waste Systems. Carter and trained by K.R.C. Stables, was ridden by Nate Condie for the number 6 spot. Tinas Shadow, owned by Gayle and Lyle Carter and trained by Lyle Carter, was seventh. Track Time, also trained by K.R.C. Stables, finished eighth. Crammers in Excess (Leslie and Tera Bradshaw) scratched. ° Gary and Arlene Carter’s Playful Act, trained by K.R.C Stables, picked up the win in the Wildy Yardley Handicap. The 6 4 furlong race for 3-year-olds and up...non-winners of 3 in a lifetime....was sponsored by Timberline Cafe, Beaver Valley Chevron and Beaver Quality Inn, with Beaver Valley Chevron furnishing the plaque. The Smart Look, James Sorenson jockeyed Slew Goldie to victory. Royal Treasure, owned by Lynn Orton and Wayne Houston, was the Ist place winner in the 14th Annual George Marshall Stakes. In addition to the trophy, sponsored by the Beaver County Thoroughbred Association, the win paid $6, 725.70. Kendall Condie was the winning jockey in the 6 4 furlong race. Royal Treasure was the only filly in the race. For the superstitious: the Stakes was the 7th race of the day, and Royal Treasure was number 7, Brent’s Pal picked up second place winnings of $2,664.90 for owner Doyal Pace. Sorenson jockeyed Bally Step to the third ridden by Black, came in second. Nate Condie jockeyed Our Hoedown to show for K. RL. Stables. On a more somber note, the Beaver County Thoroughbred Association paid tribute to the Wiseman family in acknowledgment of the loss of Wayne’s wife, Evelyn. a bad, bad, bad 2nd. start in the -He....and Nate Condie....managed to make it up for a respectible 2nd place finish. Zane Yardley, with the tractor and harrow, and Richard Pace, with the water truck, kept the track in first-class condition throughout the day. Henn’s Lucky Boy scratched in the 6th for lack of a jockey The 4-year-old chestnut gelding furlong sprint. si Linda Black won the $100. Miss Piggie drawing.
