Four instructors from the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy conducted the training in which firefighters were able to experience the signs of flashover in a controlled environment. Simply put, flashover is when a fire has generated enough heat and gasses that it explodes. The upper section of the unit was literally set on fire, using materials that create a flashover condition. Trainees, in proper fire gear, had the opportunity to experience the effect of heat.....500 to 800 degrees at floor level and up to 1,200 degrees at the ceiling.
