There is a disposition in some quarters to defy the new prohibition ordinance which went Into effect on the firBt of tho year If convictions are bad, however, how-ever, It will go hard with the violators of tho law, as the officials are determined deter-mined to enforce the ordinance. Peter Adamson of tho firm of Ad-amson Ad-amson & Co , who conducted a saloon hero prior to the first of the year, was arreBted last evening on the charge of selling whisky. After helng confined In the city jail for a short tlmo he waa released on $300 ball. The case was to have come before Justice Cunningham this morning at eleven o'clock, but was continued until Jan. 15 at 9:30 a. m. The arrest of Adamson grew out of the arrest and conviction of Joseph Brown for drunkenness a few days since, at which time ho was found In possession of a bottle of whisky, and was finally Induced to tell who sold it to him Attorney D. D. HouU of Provo is representing the defendant and A. J. Evans the prosecution. Richard Walker and Vernon Larson, both of this place, were arrested last evening for being In an Intoxicated condition on the streets, and aro now confined In the city Jail awaiting their hearing. |
