Taken to Salt Lake County Hospital for emergency treatment were: Fireman Herbert Nichols, 36, 4456 So. 5th East; who suffered injured wrist and pelvis; Lt. Glen Bean, 41, 8 East Miller Ave., Murray, Earnest Sorenson ceived chest injuries; volunteer fireman Earnest Sorenson, 37, 4825 So. 4480 West, Kearns, received broken left knee; volunteer John Bennett, 33, 5540 So. 4170 West, Kearns, received a broken lew. Two other firemen were not injured. Fire truck No. 24 was north bound on 4000 West. No. 11 fire truck was west bound on 3500 So., making a right turn at the intersection when struck by No. 24 from Kearns. The impact of No. 24 spun have been more serious if the men handnt been able to get out through an open window. It was feared for a while that four small boys were pinned under the one fire engine as they were seen in that spot just at the time of the accident. But they had jumped clear. No. 11 fire engine which was demolished was purchased in 1949, and at that time was considered the largest water carrying truck in the area at that time. It held a 1,200 gallon supply. Ironically the bam fire burnt itself out and the fire trucks were just going to be cancelled out as the accident occurred.
