Show Tp4 p Monday is Your Day Taxpayer Can (et Melp (M April The Monday Taxpayer Information Program during the period for filing 1955 Federal income tax returns is now in effect throughout the District, according to word received today from Charles I. Fox, District Director for the Utah Districts. In previous years, the Internal Revenue Service has lost millions of dollars through curtailment of its aucfit and collection activities during the period Jan. 1 through Mar. 15, in order to assist in the preparation of taxpayers returns. This loss in revenue has a direct relationship to the cost of government which is borne by every citizen in the country. The policy established for this tax period will see the inauguration in the Utah District of a "Monday Opening Plan to give taxpayers information on 1955 returns, lasting through April JaiBuy 20. 1956 THE UTAH STATESMAN we may lessen the need for taxpayers to inconvenience themselves with personal visits to our offices, stated Mr. Fox. "Any deviation from the Monday Opening, for instance in outlying offices, will be publicized locally, he added. New printed instructions, aim- ed at relieving taxpayers anxi- ety, should be in most taxpayers hands now. The Internal Revenue Service will answer questions and give information regarding the reputation of their income tax returns in substantially the same manner as last year. Service employees will actually prepare returns for persons who cannot do the job for themselves. Questions regarding the comreturn pletion of the income-tawill be answered courteously and promptly, whether by telephone or personal contact. No one will be denied such in16, 1956. "It is our hope that as this formational assistance which he educational program of Tax- may require. progresses, payer Information Taxpayers are urged to tele x phone their local office whenever possible and in this way secure answers to their questions and after doing so if they feel it necessary, they can then make personal contact. It is felt, however, that the use of the telephone by a large majority of the taxpayers will take care of the major portion of the questions asked during the filing period. The telephone number of the local Internal Revenue Service office may be found under U. S. Government Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service, in the local . telephone directory. "As we see it, the Monday plan is an intelligent and economical step in the development of sound tax administration, District Director Fox said. "With the expected savings of time of Internal Revenue Agents, increased emphasis can be placed oh apprehending tax dodgers and collecting delinquent accounts, he continued. Industry To Produce 3 To 5 Per Cent More This Year NAM Predicts The concensus of businessmen from all parts of the country is that industry will produce from three to five per dent more goods and services, in 1956. There will be more employment, better business conditions and the average employee will have more take-hom- e pay. This is the opinion of Cola G. Parker, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, as expressed in his annual report. There is no doubt In my mind about this, Mr. Parker said. We are moving upward on the economic charts into a period of prosperity, of expansion of living standards higher than ever before.
